two years ago today I accepted Islam and everything changed.

What I once worshipped left my heart. My relationships with people changed. My hunger for this world weakened. My heart broke and my focus shifted.

Even before I knew about Islam, I trusted that God would always guide me, calm me, protect me, and provide for me.

I’ve been sad, angry, and felt so lost at times. But Allah always guided me forward. I was always told I felt too much, that I was too sensitive but that was never meant to be a bad thing but a mercy from Allah SWT.

To feel so much pain means you can feel so much love too. From my family, my friends, my people, my community and beyond. Most importantly I felt my connection with Allah so strongly. I felt the power to continue to fight for the truth, for justice, for life, not for the people but for the sake of Allah. Because of Allah SWT I could live after all I felt and saw Because of Allah I can fight for us all.

The one who has nothing but Allah is truly the most blessed.

Makayla means “who is like god?”

and I found the answer after 24 years….
