The Reset Windrush Scheme Petition is calling for: 1) Free independent legal support for all Windrush victims and their impacted family members. 2) A new, independent Windrush Redress Authority backed by legislation. 3) A full public inquiry into the Windrush scandal and its ongoing impact, shaped by survivors, families, descendants and trusted community organisations. 4) Grant citizenship or indefinite leave to remain with all tests waived and any paid fees returned to the victims and their descendants who have lived most of their lives in Britain including great-grandchildren born here. Ridley Road traders and the local community are standing together to resist the eviction of the Shopping Village. The struggle to keep the Shopping Village has been ongoing since 2018. Years of gentrification and regeneration in Hackney have made this struggle a continuous one. Follow @saveridleyroad for continuous updates on the situation of the traders and how you can remain involved. TRADERS DEMANDS:  1️⃣Calling for the return of the original secure and permanent leases for all traders.  2️⃣Rent affordability- there must be a rent cap (to be agreed by traders and landlord) to ensure that traders can continue with their business and not be financially pushed out based on the unaffordability of rent.  3️⃣There must be transparency and clear communication from the landlord with all traders on the terms of the new lease and the return date after the refurbishment is expected to be completed and terms of the new lease.  4️⃣Compensation for the loss of income/earnings during the refurbishment process (which is 2/3 months of forced closure) as this will affect trader’s livelihood and their family responsibilities.  5️⃣No more collective punishment, racist discrimination and over policing of traders. All traders are to be treated equally.  💥‼️Terms of conditions of the lease must be put in writings and concerns must be addressed before traders are forced to leave for the refurbishment process. by @blmuk

On Thursday 30th October in East London, over 100 people came together for the launch of a new coalition called the Anti-Racist Movement (ARM). United in defeating the far-right, this is a cross-community coalition founded by Black Lives Matter UK, @maslaha_uk , @migrantsorganise and @right_to_remain . Attendees established local groups to organise and meet in the next few weeks! Networks have now been established across London and beyond, building the foundations of ARM. The event was hosted and chaired by @jessmally, co-founder of @awethu, who had insightful discussions with the audience as well as panel contributors, @aderonkeapata (founder of African Rainbow Family), Kojo Kyerewaa, @taj.ali1 and Zainab Abbas. 🚨 WILL THERE BE A FULL INQUEST INTO CHRIS KABA’S DEATH? Tomorrow, Thu 1 Oct, the Coroner’s Court will hear legal arguments on whether the inquest into Chris’s death should go ahead. Chris was shot and killed by Metropolitan Police firearms officer Martyn Blake on 5 September 2022. He was 24 years old and unarmed. Police did not know who Chris was when he was stopped. Four years later, we believe important facts and circumstances surrounding Chris’s death have still not been fully examined. That is why a full inquest matters. An inquest can examine the wider circumstances surrounding Chris’s death, including the police actions and decisions leading up to the moment he was killed, and key issues that were not determined through the criminal legal process. Chris’s family deserves answers. The public deserves transparency. His death deserves full scrutiny. 👀 All eyes on the hearing! Join us, alongside Speak Out, to examine how physical, legal and bureaucratic violence is limiting our ability to hold space for justice. 📍 Praxis, London 🗓️ 15th October 🕧 6pm-9pm Across the UK, movements fighting for racial and environmental justice, and standing in solidarity with the struggle for justice in Palestine, are facing increasingly intense forms of state repression. Excessive policing, surveillance, criminalisation attempts to restrict our ability to organise and hold power to account. Alongside this, draconian legislation such as the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act has expanded the powers available to the state to restrict protest and political organising. These measures form part of a wider landscape of policing and criminalisation that seeks to intimidate, fracture and ultimately attempt to disband movements fighting for justice. It is in this context that Black Lives Matter UK, alongside Speak Out, have organised this event. Power Not Permission is an unmissable opportunity to come together with others working at the grassroots, take stock, understand what's happening and organise our fight back.
