Meet Bre Lightfoot, owner of The Velvet Root Salon in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Two years ago, Bre and her husband Brad packed up their lives—and their six animals—and made the 1,600-mile journey from California to Kansas City. After successfully owning and operating two salons in California, Bre spent time working in a local Kansas City salon before taking the leap to open The Velvet Root this spring.

Securing The Velvet Root’s location at 📍462 SW Ward Road in Lee’s Summit, MO, was unique. From Bre's first call to Block & Company’s Garrett Cohoon to a fully executed lease, the entire transaction was completed in less than one week. This quick and smooth transaction was made possible by Garrett’s honesty, Bre’s drive, and the collaboration of everyone involved.

That kind of turnaround only happens when everyone is committed to the same goal. Garrett represented both the landlord and assisted Bre throughout the leasing process, while the landlord, tenant, architect, and everyone involved worked together to make the deal a reality.

For Bre, owning a business is about creating her own future while building a workplace where her team feels like family. Her advice for new business owners? Have patience, don’t give up, and take advantage of the resources the city has to offer.

We are saddened to share the passing of our colleague and friend, Bob Jaekel, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family.

Since joining Block & Company in 2017, Bob brought a meticulous work ethic, warmth, and a gift for connecting with people. Whether working in commercial real estate or negotiating with ranchers and farmers as a landman, he had a way of putting people at ease.

Outside of work, Bob enjoyed coffee by his beloved Tiki-Barn, overlooking the sunflowers and ponds on his property.

We are grateful for the years we shared with Bob and the example he leaves behind. He will always be part of the Block & Company family.

Le’anna Davis, a Kansas City native, joins Block & Company, Inc., Realtors as the newest Operations Specialist on the Property Management Team. In this role, she collaborates with Portfolio Managers and other departments to coordinate maintenance requests, work orders, inspections, vendor services, lease compliance, and ongoing property operations.

Le’anna brings over four years of experience in customer service and operations. Her expertise in team leadership, safety, and daily operations will add significant value to our property management team.

Le’anna is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Southern New Hampshire University. In her free time, she enjoys baking and getting involved in her community.

Supporting the culinary and hospitality leaders of tomorrow.

For 15 years, the James H. Block Scholarship Fund—established in honor of David M. Block’s father, James Block—has provided financial assistance to students pursuing education and careers in culinary arts, hospitality, and related fields. Since its inception in 2010, the fund has granted nearly $34,000 to 19 recipients to date.

The scholarship reflects the longstanding relationship between Block & Company and the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association and a shared commitment to strengthening the restaurant and hospitality workforce through education and professional development.

This past weekend kicked off with a KC film festival panel and wrapped up with a Chiefs win!

Over the weekend, David M. Block, Executive Producer of Broken Ones & President | Principal of Block & Company Inc., Realtors, participated in a panel with prominent film industry figures, highlighting Kansas City’s unique filming locations. The recent productions of “Broken Ones” and “Boris is Dead” have helped establish Kansas City as a rising destination for film and television production.

To top off a great weekend, the crew got together Sunday night to cheer on the Chiefs, ultimately celebrating a win!
