251. Northern Lapwing

Well! Its my birthday today and the start of Avian August! What an awesome coincidence.

This time I really wanted to make this lapwing stand out and pay alot of attention to the details. The main thing I wanted to change in my design was the position of the head and the crest. The crest broke off so I had to make a seperate one for the first time and it really turned out awesome! For the head I tried our cutting the neck and reattaching it. This helped alot with the guarding pose lapwings sometimes have when you see them in the field so this bird really marks a new way I will attempt to make my birds from now on so I am excited about making new birdies.

Thanks again to @cookiedoves for organising avianaugust every year :).

242. Great Spotted Woodpecker

Love my new camera! Its fun to think about new compositions to hang my birds in and actually succeed in capturing them better!

At first I thought the woodpecker would be pretty daunting to make so I have not made many over the last 3 years. This is my second great spotted one.

Adter this one I immediately prepared another 3 (green, black and another great spotted) which I will finish in august. Really looking forward to work on them because I have seen quite a few woodpeckers recently. I do seem to value them more then I have before haha. by @blockbirds_

I like to create slow and long clips as reels. They show the birds that I carve from wood in an area that is or resembles their natural habitat. I think they are more like moving photographs which gives you more time and space to absorb the beautiful details.

Whenever I have finished a few birds I usually pack my stuff and take my bike around the villages I live in and close by. The route is not really planned so I stumble upon alot of new areas I havent been before which leafd to tons of new discoveries. I csn also photograph alot of birds while looking for spots to place my own birds :).

This helps me relax and I want to share these small moments with you. Hopefully you can also relax a bit with these small snippets of nature.

Thank you for watching my stuff. by @blockbirds_

247. Common Kingfisher

Wow. It has been a while :). I really lost interest in posting because it didnt seem worthwhile to invest my time into showing new things online. Life has been busy and it feels better to invest my time into more important things.

I did have finish a batch of birds recently though and today I found the time to photograph the bunch. So in the coming weeks I will post them. For now, heres the first one of them, a kingfisher!

In this batch of birds I definitely took the time to refine some smaller details and develop my own style a bit further. Hopefully you will enjoy these familiar (and new!) birds and pick up the refinement.

Fun part; I also got a new camera! So the pictures will be a little more crisp aswell. Cant wait to show you the new birds! by @blockbirds_

217. Eurasian Oystercatcher

My second bird for #birbfest2026. Always a favourite to make because of their stark white and black contrast. their screeching when they cluster together is so fun to hear!

200. Common Kingfisher

Hey! Heres a bird again! I have been hibernating for a while and took some time off for some reflection and carving. It has been necessary to think about how I want to continue with blockbirds and I am really looking forward to making alot of new things. Winter has always been a time for me to reflect and look forward. It really helps me develop things further. I have thought about new ways to present my work, make new cards and even made a new birb line. I will present it in a few weeks when I have made a few of them. Really looking forward!

For now I can present this older kingfisher piece I made last summer. Since then I have further developed ths bird and made a few that are more accurate with their featherplacement. So it kinda weird to look at this one, haha.

This one is part op #birbfest2026 day 25 hosted by @monkeymintaka.

Hope you like it!

215. White Stork

Well, I went off the radar again for a bit 😂. Seems hard to keep posting consistently haha! I went on holiday for a bit, saw a hoopoe, relaxed for a while and now back to carving again :). Preparing for the last market this year in december! Hopefully I will be able to present some new birds.

Currently also working on a larger wooden inlay piece so that might come up in a while aswell. In the meanwhile, enjoy this stork!

214. Northern Lapwing

A beautiful bird with its fierce crest! I have made several of these now and the crest is always a part where I use up the entirity of my focus. Its a tense moment where I have the feeling it can break of any moment. It hasnt happened often so I am grateful that it went well this time aswell.

Its hard to portray how I painted the feathers for this bird in a photo but if you hold it up to the light you can actually see the sheen these feathers have. I used pearlescent paint for that and it worked out really well!

Hope you like this one aswell :).

205. Eurasian Golden Oriole

I had the privilege to hear this bird for the first time last spring. What a magnificent sound these beauties make! I unfortunately did not see it because it was well hidden in the tree tops. Who would have thought that a yellow bird would be so hard to spot? A master of camouflage, neon coloured 🫣.
