WHOO at the end! The nicest boulder I have climbed in the trip to Kjugekull.

During the trip I was mentally in a bad place regarding climbing, having expectations on climbing certain routes without having done any research on specific routes or the style of boulders here. So I got shut down and had to adjust those expectations twice which also led me to search for a boulder more in my style and it did not disappoint. Good teachings of taking the strong and weak points into your goal making and expectations.

Der Hexer 7C

Inspired by @swaenharmsen to climb this fantastic boulder. 8 months ago I tried this boulder for the first time, in freezing temps and the occasional snowfall I kept shivering next to the boulder. I couldnt stay warm, and with that also came that I couldn't really feel my feet which is the crux for the beginning. It was quite a mental struggle for this one, focusing on send tries quickly after doing all the moves but I kept getting shutdown on those first few moves.

Now 8 months later, feeling a lot stronger, projecting tactics and mental game are better. This boulder now felt flowy once I got all the nuances figured out which was such an amazing feeling. I'm still surprised.

Intermezzo 7C

After a disappointing week in Sweden (Kjugekull) that was mostly caused by high expectations of myself which I just couldn't satisfy, I was really looking forward to Magic Wood. Strip away the expectations, have fun with the good friends that I was with, explore Magic Wood and not get sucked into a project was the goal.

It felt really good to just go climb for climbing sake, instead of chasing the next big thing(even though I was still chasing 7th grade boulders). I climbed lots of cool lines, scary lines and also tidbits ofcourse. One day we were right next to Intermezzo and I was eager to try the moves and continue, which went surprisingly well, managed to do all of the moves and even did it in 2/3 links. But the goal was to not get sucked into a project so we went on, climbed some easier lines and returned three days later.

The day before returning I felt like the expectations came back and with came a lot of tension, nervousness and lots of thoughts about what if I would do this boulder. This feeling stayed till I did some warming up and tried the moves again. The moves felt quite hard so I needed to focus if I wanted to do this. I started to make some better links and felt like I could give tries from the beginning where I would either fall on the second move or the last move until this moment. The attempt was the worst of them all but the biggest thing is that I was willing to dig deep and crimp fucking hard to get the top. So even thought I had to readjust like 3 or 4 times on the bad crimps I managed to top because of effort put in. So proud of that effort and second 7C.

Bagheera 7C

First of the grade and what an amazing line it is!

I tried this first on the Easter weekend this year a little after doing my first 7B+ and I was surprised I could do the top section quite easily but I was getting a real punch in the face by the second and third move. I had no clue what was missing for these two moves but all in all I felt excited for a 7C project.

Forward to Oktober, I had trained a lot, even set a replica for the beginning of the boulder at @boulderstationenschede and ready to try it again. On this Thursday we would have had a supposedly "restday" due to the weather forecast but once we woke up there was no rain, it was cold and there was a lot of wind, perfect conditions so I decided to try my project. After warming up I gave all the moves a try and I was pleasantly surprised that I could do the second and third move, both even within two tries, meaning it was time to give sendIng tries.

But... Of course life had its way and decided to give us a small rain storm which made us go for a coffee, do a hike and leave the boulder for the afternoon. When we came back in the afternoon the slopers were almost dry and got myself psyched again. 10 goes later I'm standing on top of the boulder in disbelief.

Olkrise 7B+

The first time I tried this boulder was back in 2023, I would get shutdown only to start this boulder, not even being able to any moves or even hold the positions. In total I've spent around 5-7 sessions on this from just a few tries and playing around in 2024 to having proper projecting sessions the last few months.

A lot of times I thought I would do it in the next attempt just for the boulder to show me I haven't learned all the micro beta yet. Making me have to figure out a faster sequence for the beginning and also learning how to properly engage and how to hold the crux crimps.

This boulder felt like a wake up call. Looking back now to my first outdoor bouldering session two years ago, seeing that I've grown a lot.

Bent Arm Stance

This is one of the excercises that I've been working on to get towards my goal of doing a freestanding handstand push up, working on both strength and stability.

Currently I can do 10 sets with 2 reps of transitioning from l-sit to bent arm stance, holding both at the l-sit and bent arm stance for 2-3 seconds. Around the 8th set it gets too hard to hold the second bent arm stance for more than a second. When I'm able to perfectly execute the 10 sets, I'm gonna be trying to push out from the bent arm stance to handstand.
