Not every finish line feels the way you imagined it would.

I went into this race with so many hopes for how the day would go. I wanted to beat my previous marathon time, meet the goals I had set for myself, and see all the hard work from training pay off.

But race day had other plans. Between the heat, my headphones not working, the beating sun in the second half, and getting injured at mile 23, the race quickly became a very different experience than I had envisioned. There were some tears shed, a lot more walking than I had planned, and some tough moments where I had to let go of the goals I came into the day chasing.

It’s hard to put so much time, energy, and heart into something and not get the outcome you hoped for. But I’m reminding myself that my finish time doesn’t define me as a runner, and one race doesn’t erase the months of training, the early mornings, the miles, or the work it took to get here.

I can be disappointed that I didn’t meet my goals while still being proud of myself for crossing that finish line. Not every race goes according to plan, and sometimes you have to give yourself grace when it doesn’t.

Chicago, you were a tough one, but I’ll be back at that starting line soon enough. 💙🏃🏼‍♀️🏙️

DONE AND DUSTEDDDDD!! 🏃‍♀️

My training runs have been feeling super subpar lately, so I was VERY nervous going into this 20 miler, especially after my failed attempt two weeks prior when I only made it 15. But this one felt really good and somehow, running 20 miles in the rain was actually such a vibe ☔️

Next stop: taper town ➡️ and then @chimarathon 🏙️

@franklinroomchicago just got a refresh with a moodier atmosphere and a reimagined menu packed with global flavors. We went to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and everything we ordered was so good. Such a cozy spot as we head into fall and perfect for date night, happy hour, or a night out with friends!
