The coolest thing happened today: one of my favorite artists, @meaghanelderkinart, surprised me with this incredible portrait! I am blown away by her kindness in giving me the drawing and how perfectly she captured who I am. 🤓😏 Meaghan drew RBG and Liz Warren on two of my favorite (& most used) coffee mugs and I’m feeling all the feelings to be in their company. 🥺♥️

There are many ways that social media has made things worse. But this is a great example of how it’s made things better too. ♥️

About a month ago our sweet Tuck had two teeth removed, including one of his upper fangs. Ever since his lip keeps getting stuck on his lower fang tooth, leaving what we call his snarly face. It’s so funny and cute that I had to share. 😏😹 by @blondieesquire

I had the best time last night celebrating the amazing @kleecarey with our dear friend @sylvanaim at the @lawyersclubsd annual dinner. Congrats, Kate, on your well deserved community service award, and the LC staff and board for a wonderful year. And I am still thinking about the incredible speech by Elizabeth Nyamayaro. May we all move forward with the spirit of ubuntu as we do our good work in the world.

I rarely post about work on Instagram, but this year has been extremely challenging. Today was a really good day.

DHS paroled my client into the U.S. in 2022 so she could lawfully seek asylum. She’s complied with every condition, and her asylum application has been pending since 2023. I’ve been her pro bono attorney for four years. Twenty-one days ago, she was wrongfully arrested and re-detained by ICE for no reason. I filed a petition for habeas corpus and the court granted it, ordering ICE to release her within 24 hours and prohibiting ICE from re-arresting or re-detaining her without due process.

The wheels of justice are turning, friends. But they need our help.

If you’re admitted in federal court, you can represent a pro bono client too. I’m happy to connect you to a local firm that’s doing the work. It took me about 20 hours because I read dozens and dozens of cases granting habeas relief with similar facts. Worth every minute to get it right.

I cried tears of joy when I got the order last night. I can’t wait to confirm my client’s release from detention and that she’s safely back at home.

This profession is grueling. Pro bono work helps you find the light.

I can’t think of a better way to start a Friday than attending the 18th annual San Diego Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast with @birdersurfer. We made some new friends and got to meet author and this year’s Harvey Milk Leadership Awardee @iamgmjohnson, who signed our copy of All Boys Aren’t Blue. 😍
