Mating shots can be quite tricky to get without disturbing them. by @bloombeetles

A rare and beautiful sight in Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai! 🦋✨
On January 13th, I came across a mating pair of Apefly butterflies. They were so incredibly still that I was able to capture over 10 perfectly focused shots! The Apefly is such a unique species—seeing a pair like this is a real treat for any nature lover.

Shot on my Vivo X200 Pro.

🦋 Common Hedge Blue Butterflies

Found a few Common Hedge Blue butterflies gathered together on a wet pebble in a dried canal at Green Valley Park, Belapur, on 18th October 2026.

Interestingly, there were also some bird droppings on the pebble. Butterflies sometimes gather around wet surfaces and animal droppings to absorb essential minerals and salts. This behaviour is known as Puddling

A fascinating little gathering and another beautiful moment in nature! 🌿

🦋 Double-banded Judy (Abisara echerius)

Found this beautiful little butterfly doing something something on a green mango leaf at Ovalekar Wadi Butterfly Garden on the morning of 10th October 2026. 🌿

Have you ever wondered why butterflies touch leaves with their long, straw-like mouthparts? They may be sipping honeydew left by tiny insects, feeding on plant sap, or taking in moisture and minerals from the leaf surface.

A small butterfly with fascinating behaviour - another beautiful moment in nature! 🍃

Indian Owlet Moth 🦋

Found this beautiful Indian Owlet Moth hiding inside a bush near a pond at Green Valley park, Belapur, on 18th October 2026.

Its beautiful colours, unique patterns, and stunning wings caught my attention. Nature is full of surprises, and sometimes the most beautiful creatures are hidden right in front of us. 🌿🍃

🦋 Tawny Coster Butterfly -The Beginning of a New Life!🥚🌿

The Tawny Coster (Acraea terpsicore) is a beautiful orange butterfly with distinctive black markings, commonly seen in gardens and open spaces.

On 18th October 2026, at Agro Garden, Belapur, I witnessed a fascinating moment in nature — a female Tawny Coster laying eggs! 🥚✨

🌱 Did you know?
The female lays tiny, yellowish eggs in clusters on suitable host plants, often on the undersides of leaves. Passionflower (Passiflora) is one of its important host plants. After hatching, the tiny caterpillars feed on the host plant leaves and begin their incredible transformation into butterflies.

From a tiny egg to a crawling caterpillar, then a pupa, and finally a beautiful butterfly — every stage is a wonder of nature! 🌿🦋

Baronet butterfly,

Saw On 4th October 2026 at Ovalekar Wadi garden.
Enjoying banana pulp which we put on the coconut tree.

The Baronet (Euthalia nais) is a stunning and active butterfly known for its brilliant, fiery orange wings heavily patterned with bold black bars and spots. Unlike many butterflies that feed exclusively on flower nectar, this species has a strong preference for sweet liquids like tree sap and fermenting fruit, making baited tree trunks a favorite spot. They have a fast, gliding flight style, love basking in bright sunlight, and are frequently spotted resting on tree trunks in wooded gardens and forests.

Blue Tiger - male butterflies feeding on an Alkanet plant to collect essential compounds.

On 30th September 2026, at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali.
Male Blue Tigers scratch this plant to absorb pyrrolizidine alkaloids. They turn these chemicals into pheromones to attract mates, while also making themselves toxic to birds and predators!
