Cloud Burst: With Elia & Friends On April 3rd, after wrapping up the Signal to Sound workshop that I am conducting (link in bio), we will be gigging at Mool from 7:00 PM onwards. We’ll sit around and play some sounds we’ve been making, jamming to, and listening to lately. We'll be joined by our friend Elia who's visiting from Berlin, big ups to @prohelvetia_newdelhi for bringing him here. What will we play? Is it experimental? Is it music? Well, come and find out. The lineup (not in any order) for the night: - delmore fx is an experimental electronic producer from berlin who processes sounds, noise, synth, and field recordings into something you really just have to hear in person to understand. Words don't quite do it, so just show up. - Ba is a Delhi-based transdisciplinary artist who works with polyphones and Mongolian throat singing layered with electronics. It’s like the 13th century met a motherboard, and honestly, it works. - bloop is another aberration in Delhi who will be manipulating melodies, voice and text into uncanny loops. Imagine talking to yourself but with others? bloop will be in the bloop company of delmore fx and @plan17music - aasma is a multidisciplinary artist using Pure Data and samples. She brings the flavor of hip-hop into her grooves, which is a nice break from the rest of us. - beatnyk is a noisemaker whose performance mostly consists of him staring intensely at his screen and offering a silent prayer to the tech gods that his laptop doesn't have a mid-life crisis and crash. It’s going to be a chill, fun evening with prolly a lot of "what's going on?" and "where's that sound coming from?". Which is what we want. Everyone and anyone reading this is welcome (even otherwise, you are welcome). It’s a BYOB situation—bring your own beverages. Or bottles. Bottles are better for holding the beverages, usually. The best part about @synth.hang has been meeting people who are just as obsessed with the weird world of synths and experimental music as we are. After Playdate #1, we realised there are soooooo many more people who are also tired of the usual and want to experience something new - and we want to bring you into the fold! Surge will begin with hidden sounds and listening stations tucked away upstairs in the mezzanine, before flowing into two-hours of Moss, Mandakini Cables, Bloop, and Songs For a Tired City presenting their worlds to you - acts will appear and reappear, mixing all our different sound worlds and practices. Think modular pulses…electric forests….ambient textures melting into field recordings….drums collapsing into drones and ofc moments of full-blown sonic chaos. ‘A Splitting’ will mark the second incident as part of the project ‘On mining the ear for the nearly-but-not-quite-there’*. The narration takes off from one of the objects in the catalog of the inaudibles and opens up the sonic unit into its many constituent frequencies diffracting across timespans, media genealogies and affective arrangements via notes, screenshots, readings, speculations and connections-in-the-making. A sonic catalogue of instances, objects, artefacts and excavations of an inaudible kind. Structures, arrangements, phenomena and utterances inhabiting fictional histories and the dissonant present have been selected, re-arranged, enumerated and vocalised to bring the inaudible into the fold of the thinkable. The drop of this audio-list on the 4th of November, will mark the first incident as part of the project ‘On mining the ear for the nearly-but-not-quite-there’–a project by @suvanisuri that takes on concerns around the various modalities, registers and politics of frequency frequently associated with disquiet, the weird and the eerie.
