I had already spent much of my life being a mother and a nurturer. Caring for people came naturally to me. But over time, especially through loss and major changes in my own life, I began to see how often support is available for one moment and then disappears — even though the person is still carrying everything that came before and trying to figure out what comes next.

Losing my brother became one of the biggest catalysts for change in my life. It changed the way I understood grief, recovery, family, community, and the difference it makes when somebody is willing to keep walking beside you instead of expecting you to figure everything out alone.

That understanding led me into recovery work, advocacy, family support, wellness, education, birth and postpartum care, and community work. The areas may look different, but the need underneath them is often the same: people need continued support through the transitions of their lives.

Sometimes that means information. Sometimes it means practical help. Sometimes it means resources, encouragement, advocacy, or simply having someone who sees the whole picture instead of only the problem in front of them.

That is the heart of Almond Tree Wellness.

ATW grew from my belief that care should not stop when the immediate crisis is over, when the baby is born, when someone leaves treatment, or when everyone else has gone back to their regular lives. People are still growing, adjusting, healing, parenting, rebuilding, and becoming.

I can’t change what happened to my brother. But I can let what his life and his loss taught me become part of something that helps somebody else.

Nobody should have to walk alone. Everyone deserves the support and space to keep growing.
