HULK SMASH… BAIT. 💥🌈🩸

Meet the Smash Bait by Capt. Erik “Merlin” Rusnak of @alohalureshawaii, dressed as a “Bleeding Runner.”

The design traces back to an oversized blank Erik poured at just 17. Capt. Ray Corder spent weeks sanding and polishing that original head—a beginning that helped shape the modern Smash Bait.

This one wears blue-and-silver skirting from @blueoceanmanufacturing over bright yellow Tuff Tails from @moldcraftfishing, with red on the belly for that wounded rainbow runner look. Blue flash up top, yellow through the sides, and a streak of red underneath. 🩸

Paired with the Smash Bait’s aggressive, turbulent swimming action, the Bleeding Runner theme comes together.

Mojo Rising from @palmettolures, dressed in Electric Lemonade. 🍋⚡

Built for high-speed wahoo trolling, this reverse-tapered head combines a deep cup and six jets to run deep and throw a heavy smoke trail. The taper adds side-to-side action, while that pink, silver, and yellow/chartreuse combination makes Electric Lemonade one of maker Chris’s personal favorites.

18 oz skirted | 16–18 inches | Recommended double 10/0 open-gap hookset

Chris likes it on the right long or way-back without an added trolling weight, letting it come up for air before diving back down and leaving that smoke trail behind.

The model has some serious catches behind it, too. Chris credits the Mojo Rising with a 126.8 lb wahoo in the 2022 Don Combs Wahoo Roundup. That’s a heck of a fish. 👊

He handles the build himself, from making the molds and pouring and dressing the inserts to casting the heads and tying the skirts. Handmade in the USA. 🇺🇸

And the backstory is pretty relatable: too many lure deliveries and a guest room becoming a lure room led to his wife telling him to start making his own. Some of us might be heading down that same road. 😂

Surface rip. Deep swim. Long bubble trail.

That is the calling card of the 9-inch @alohalureshawaii Kona Mongo, handmade in Hawai‘i by legendary craftsman Erik “Merlin” Rusnak.

Erik describes it as a consistent surface bomber capable of swimming deeper. Its cup face tears across the surface before diving down and leaving a trail of bubbles behind it. Pull it as a teaser or rig it with hooks—either way, this bubbling menace is built to draw action into the spread. Credited with numerous tournament and trophy-sized fish, it is especially at home when the water gets rough.

This one is dressed in @blueoceanmanufacturing skirts with blue and pink scale over smoke-purple, carrying the rainbow flash from the head through the tail.

Old-school Hawaiian pedigree dressed and ready for marlin waters anywhere.
