🪸600 coral fragments planted in partnership between @thecoralplanters , @ssi_international and @blueoceansprogram in the heart of the Java Sea.🪸

From collection to planting. Every fragment harvested by hand from healthy colonies, carefully attached to structures, and placed on a degraded reef.

Before: a bare seafloor.
After: the beginning of a reef.

2. In the search bar, type Blue Oceans or SSI
3. The corals will appear across 12 separate reef structures :

ING_021 ; ING_022 ; ING_023 ; ING_024 ; ING_025 ; ING_026 ; ING_027 ; ING_028 ; ING_029 ; ING_030 ; ING_034 ; ING_035

Each structure has its own reef number and can be viewed individually on the map and in the project gallery. The coral pictures will be uploaded every 6 months so that everyone can track coral health and growth over the years.🪸

POV: you’re tiny, vulnerable, and your parents haven’t stopped working for days. 🥚🐠

These false clownfish parents are guarding their eggs around the clock and constantly fanning them with their fins to keep fresh, oxygen-rich water flowing over them.

No days off. No babysitter. Just instinct, teamwork, and hundreds of tiny lives waiting to hatch. 🧡🌊

Nature is pretty incredible when you slow down enough to watch it.

Corals: a love story 💖🪸

It starts with a single, microscopic polyp searching the open sea for a place to anchor.

Once it settles, magic happens. It multiplies, builds a calcium skeleton, and welcomes micro-algae into its home in a lifelong partnership. Together, they paint the ocean floor in vibrant colors, building living cities that shelter 25% of all marine life.

They are fragile, resilient, and utterly breathtaking—the ultimate proof that beautiful things take time to grow.

Did you know there are a few easy ways to tell which turtle you spotted on your dive⁉️🧐

🐢Here are some tips for recognizing a green turtle:

👀 Look between the eyes. A green turtle has only one pair of big scales there. If you count two pairs, it’s a hawksbill.

💋Check the mouth. Green turtles have a short, rounded snout. Hawksbills have a sharp, hooked beak, like a bird.

🐚Look at the shell. It’s smooth, and the plates sit side by side. On a hawksbill, the plates overlap like roof tiles.

👀Count the claws. A green turtle has just one claw on each front flipper.

⚠️And a fun fact: the shell is usually brown or olive, not green. The name comes from their fat, which turns green from eating seagrass and algae.

I love close encounters with sharks… until they get a little too close 😂🦈
Nurse sharks are generally calm and docile, and being able to observe one swimming freely in its natural environment is always an incredible experience.
This one was apparently a little more curious about me than I expected. I definitely appreciated the visit… and also appreciated when it decided to keep swimming😂
