This shop is responsible for saving vintage Mercedes

@blueridgemb takes on one of the most daunting jobs one could ask of a shop: fix vintage, custom-built, German performance cars.

With a love for everything AMG, it’s founder Jonathan Hodgman has become the go-to man for saving many of these one-off machines and he’s looking for help #LetsDriveIt

$This car got rejected from car shows for being “not special enough.” Now it’s in the Petersen. I got goosebumps seeing it. The Petersen Automotive Museum’s “World-Class: 100 Years of Mercedes-Benz” exhibit is on display now, featuring some of the finest examples of Mercedes-Benz’s greatest cars, from examples on loan from Mercedes-Benz’s own museum to cars from some of the greatest private collections in the world. For those who don’t know, the Petersen is arguably the most important automotive museum in the world. Seeing the 300SL prototype, a 540K and the Le Mans-winning Sauber C9 is to be expected. Seeing the Hammer wagon is something else entirely, it’s extremely important for the collector car hobby, and me personally. Let’s talk about the Hammer. This is the only example produced by AMG North America, one of 13, with a build cost of $250,000. It was the most extreme offering from AMG at the time, with bespoke options that make this car even more special. As with most tuner cars, they reached a point where they were unloved and forgotten by the general public. The Hammer was no exception, with examples trading as low as $8,000. This particular example changed hands at Barrett-Jackson in 2010 for a fraction of its original build cost. It was acquired by a gentleman enthusiast dedicated to Mercedes-Benz repair at the highest level, with a serious need for speed. He displayed the car at numerous shows and events, but it was often turned away because it wasn’t considered worthy. Unfortunately, that was the story for the entire pre-merger AMG community for decades. We can safely say these special cars are finally getting the recognition they deserve. To go from being rejected at car shows to four examples now publicly displayed at museums around the world is a humbling experience. A massive thank you to those listed below and many others. Telling the story of these amazing cars wouldn’t have been possible without you. @blueridgemb @thepatinacollective @thembmarket @wearecurated @233west by @blueridgemb$

Every vehicle featured in TheDrawnMotion – Mercedes Benz Edition #3 is carefully selected.

This C124 is just one of the 54 Mercedes Benz’s that will appear in the book.

What you see here is the original hand-drawn charcoal sketch stage.

In print, this sketch will be transformed into a finished artwork created through a blend of hand-crafted and digital techniques, preserving the character of the vehicle while staying true to the spirit of the original drawing. 📖🧑🏽‍🎨 by @blueridgemb

Second Hammer shoot is in the books. This is Jono Hodgman’s personal 300CE 6.0 DOHC Hammer that was a Westmont built example in 1988.

Bought new through RBM of Atlanta for $47k, it was then sent straight to the Richard Buxbaum’s AMG tuning outfit in Chicago and had an additional $150k spent on the Hammer conversion. Mind you, this was 1988 money.

The history on this one is thoroughly documented and Blue Ridge MB has psychotically serviced and improved this Hammer to be driven hard and fast — just as they were meant to be in-period. It is one of three Hammer coupes and the only one that got the integrated Westmont ducktail spoiler.

The listing can be found here in the RM Sotheby’s catalogue with a wonderfully written copy: https://rmsothebys.com/auctions/s0626/lots/r0003-1988-mercedesbenz-300-ce-60-amg-hammer-galdi-coupe/
