Working to prevent domestic violence and advance health equity in California? The right data can make your case stronger. 📊

Last year, we funded a statewide survey on Californians’ experiences with domestic violence, equity and safety. Now we’re making sure that data is easy to reach so advocates, grantees and decision makers can put it to work.

With our new data dashboard, you can quickly search for and pull the findings you need, whether for a grant report, a presentation or your next domestic violence awareness campaign.

Also, it’s important to mention that tools like this take a team. 💜 Thank you to @varickhasim for building the dashboard, and to our key partners in its development, @tamoore32 and Andy Krackov, founder of Hillcrest Advisory.

What would a photo of domestic violence look like if the person in it decided what to show? 📸

Earlier this month, we shared why trauma-informed visuals matter. This week, here’s what that care looks like in practice, starting with safety. When photojournalist @alishajucevic asked the people she photographed what they felt comfortable showing, the resulting images centered their choices and resilience.

Swipe through, save this for your next assignment, and tell us what practices shape how you tell these stories. 💜

A photograph often tells a story before a single word is read. For survivors of domestic violence, the wrong image can say: I wasn’t heard. I’m no longer safe.

This #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth, we’re exploring what it looks like to tell visual stories with care. Through Working with Care, a workshop led by visual journalists @sarahblesener and Jennifer Stratton with @endingdvinca, photojournalists and survivors came together to explore what it means to create images WITH someone, not about them.

Swipe for lessons from their conversations, then read the full post on our blog (link in bio) and explore the Journalist Playbook at journalists.letsenddv.org.

All month long, we’ll be sharing more reflections from survivors and visual journalists. We hope you’ll join the conversation.

84% of Californians support the state investing more in domestic violence prevention, including restorative justice programs.

That’s not just one person’s opinion. That’s most of the state saying: fund the work that’s already proven to help.

It’s the work our restorative justice grantee cohort shows up for every day, and they’re building community-based models that meet people where the old system doesn’t:

🔸 @rjoyoakland is interrupting cycles of violence in Oakland’s schools and communities, with a focus on Black women and women of color
🔸 @chat_project is holding voluntary, confidential healing circles in Contra Costa County that bring survivors, community, and the person who caused harm together to address intimate partner violence—no law enforcement involved
🔸 @la.cultura.cura does culturally-rooted work with Latino men and families that addresses violence by reconnecting people to identity and community
🔸 @homeboyindustries runs a reentry program in L.A., now extending restorative practices to prevent intimate partner violence for formerly incarcerated people

When the data says California wants this funded, we think it’s worth naming who’s actually doing it. by @blueshieldcafoundation

Domestic violence is everywhere, but it is not inevitable. It’s healable and preventable, and the data backs that up.

On Sept. 24 at 11am PST, we’re bringing together the people closest to the numbers and the people turning them into action. Swipe to meet the panel →

Sometimes the most powerful question you can ask a leader is simple: What do you need to grow?

Since 2021, we’ve invested in 18 emerging leaders across California—many of them women of color leading nonprofits doing essential work in their communities. Not by telling them what they need. By asking.

One leader used that support—which included coaching, strategic planning, and leadership training—to grow her organization’s budget from under $50,000 to $750,000 in just a few years.

That’s what happens when leaders get the tools to match their vision. Read the full story in the link in our bio.

What if caregiving worked for the people who give care, too?

Meet Aquilina Soriano Versoza, founder of @vividlife_homecare, a caregiver-owned cooperative built on a simple idea: when caregivers have real ownership, fair wages, and room to grow, the people they care for get better care too.

Aquilina spent nearly 30 years organizing alongside domestic workers before helping build a home care model where caregivers are owners, not just employees. Watch the clip to hear her talk about what caregiver ownership looks like in practice.

Your health, safety and opportunity shouldn’t be determined by your income, race, gender, or ZIP code.

Today, we’re introducing a new look for the Foundation—one rooted in who we are and moving boldly toward the California we know is possible.

It reflects how we approach this work: with resilience, warmth and a deep belief in people. We’re here to celebrate progress, strengthen connections and work alongside nonprofits, communities and policymakers to break the cycle of domestic violence, expand economic security, and help public systems better serve the people they’re meant to serve.

In 2025, that meant investing $19.5 million across 101 grants supporting organizations creating lasting change across California.

Our new identity is vibrant and forward-moving because our vision is too. At the same time, we’re staying grounded in the people, partnerships and communities at the heart of this work.

This is more than a new look. It’s a clearer expression of where we’re headed, together.

Come see what’s taking shape on our new website, and imagine with us a healthier, safer and more equitable California. by @blueshieldcafoundation

For many survivors, getting to safety comes down to something painfully simple: being able to afford it.

At a recent Asset Funders Network conversation, leaders from @freefromdotorg, @communityforwardsf, and @vip.in.nyc shared how economic abuse can leave survivors without the money, housing, credit, or financial freedom they need to move forward.

Our senior program officer Rachel Wick and Sojourner Rivers of @nywomensfdn reflected on those lessons in a new piece exploring what they mean for philanthropy.

It’s a reminder that breaking the cycle of domestic violence and strengthening economic security are deeply connected, and that survivors are already showing us what meaningful support can look like.

Take a moment to talk with someone in your community about how economic security can support survivor safety, then read the full piece at the link in our bio.
