“Double America” - inspired by the contemporary art piece of the same name by @glennligon, this song is sung from the perspective of the actor and actress in the 1898 film “Something Good”, which is believed to be one of the first portrayals of African American love captured in American cinema.
.
Thank you @academymuseum for this great honor 🙏🏽 First time ever doing song responses to panel questions during the Regeneration Black Cinema Gallery Spotlight was a dream come true. Giving thanks to the ancestors & living pioneers that have paved the way for melanated people to see themselves portrayed on screen in America. Nothing taken for granted. ✨🙏🏽🎶.🚀🖖🏽 And super grateful to @colectivoguzman @stephsame @tocatzin @monaydanielle_ @subterraneankarina for all the love, openness and vision you gift the world 💛✨🙏🏽🎶. Also special shout out to @1500soundacademy for opening the door for collaborations like this one!

4 da empaths 🌀🫶🏽.

remember the first time feeling other’s e-motions like WHO is this??? WHAT is this??? was it soooooooo overwhelming and intimidating and maybe w/ no guidance, it felt the the magic school bus turnt struggle school bus? 😆 within the overwhelm, did you try to numb out or lash out…through binge smoking, drinking or even binging people? if so, in solidarity with you.

for me, it wasn’t until an 🧿opening experience occurred that led to a path of sobriety, searching, shedding and soul expansion that showed what a beautiful gift this sensitivity is. so to all da empaths, know you have a superpower, and leaning INTO it, not OUT of it will open up a path to tru inpowerment & freedom.🫶🏽🌀 by @bluuflwr
