Since childhood jewelry has always been a big part of my style. In my family, fine jewelry was worn everyday, all pieces layered up, the bigger the better, no matter the occasion. It wasn’t a “trend”, it was just what we did. As a latina, growing up in New York in 80s and 90s, it was in our boroughs that you saw people wearing statement pieces everyday - I know in Queens we were wearing some of the thickest chains and biggest door knocker earrings ever seen and that was the style across all boroughs. The brown and black communities were and still are the styling inspiration for jewelry. We buy jewelry because we understand the flyness of it yet we still don’t see enough of us as part of the industry. With NANINO I want to switch that up - lets make fine jewelry for us, by us.
