'...IS A STAR', to me, is the affirmation of our resilience as a people. The phrase is reminder of our unlimited potential and our kinship to the cosmos. It's such a poetic line that speaks directly to our skill of reclaiming our personhood in the face of oppression. Who would deny, that you and I, and...

The iconography references Boris Gardiner's song "Every Nigger is a Star", Kendrick Lamar's "Wesley's Theory", & hip hop culture at large. It also utilizes pan-african motifs and an aesthetic nod to Faith Ringgold's "Woman Freedom Now".

This tapestry was made for and to be loved by black people.

I have produced a limited edition run of this tapestry & I will be releasing for purchase at my show. A pre-order form will soon be available.

I’m happy to launch our first multi-week clay course this November! If you’re interested in hand-building, come through on Friday evenings to learn how to create with clay. In this course, you’ll learn about different types of clay, the basic ceramic construction methods, and complete your own clay project. More info and registration at the link in my bio!

This course will be taught by Darius Scott (@blvk.lite), a sculptor with more than 4 years of experience working across iron, clay, and more. Darius is a skilled instructor, expert sculptor, and can’t wait to spend time teaching you 🫵🏾

i sculpt with a fiery passion and an ancestral discipline! I've got a growing, loving steadfast community behind my back. Ima use this freedom I got, this priveledge, this gift, to shape this world towards our collective uplift!

In this video I'm sculpting Sankofa to be cast in Iron. A symbol that will stand as a strong foundation intended to uplift, crowned by Freedom Dreams. You'll see what I mean.. by @blvk.lite

sankofa is, as my friend @artunchained affirms, a call to action. To go back and get it, to retrieve ones history in order to move forward wisely. i find sankofa to be a central symbol as I continue on my path traversing the world through sculpture. not to mention the beauty of the braid!

Look forward to seeing this cast in iron 🔥❤️‍🔥‼️ by @blvk.lite
