6 whole months.

Most days, I’m unwell. For the others it’s fight or flight.

Our relationship was complicated. But that was the most uninteresting part about it. For many years you were my constant. It was always your house. Your friends. Your ideas and your love. Even if it was unconventional. I knew my weekends would be spent with you. You shaped a lot of my younger years and I’m heartbroken at the idea of the future. That we will have no time to catch up. To reminisce. To learn and unlearn so much about ourselves and what’s important. But there isn’t a day that I’m not grateful for the many years of “party and bullshit” we experienced together. It was never a dull moment.

This is for anyone who is struggling with a complex family relationship. I see you. And I know how hard it is to be exposed to someone who doesn’t want you around. Please don’t give up on them. Find a way. Ease yourself into them. Expand your reach and remain open. We all deserve to let go of the negative things that confine us to our own little worlds. Sometimes it takes vulnerability, patience, and choosing to reach a little farther than feels comfortable. I would give anything to be able to text Jake right now and tell him every single little thing I’ve thought about over these last 183 days.

Don’t wait until you can’t anymore.

This year has made my concept of time confusing, painful, yet beautiful. Cause what do you mean we have been married for 8 years?!!! The last ten spent with you have been nothing but a journey of love, joy, adventure (lots of it) heartbreak, achievements, happiness, and overall complete madness of what makes the Hale Family great. We have overcome so much together. To be loved so unconditionally by you is by far one of my greatest gifts. To see our babies and knowing they are an extension of us is the coolest thing ever. I love you, dear.

I have to say, there’s something so surreal about our story and it really has me in my feels. To lose my brother and then to watch my husband and a best friend lose theirs. Back to back. As much as we have had to trudge through the mud, we really have had each other. Couldn’t be doing anything of this without my FAM. ❤️ love you all, endlessly.
