stoked to let ya'll know we are part of a zine crew on Hawai'i island organizing this zine fest in july! we will be tabling along with 20 other zinesters and other vendors supporting this community-based action and gathering.

There will be zines, art, music, diy print station, political education, food drive & distribution, a mobile clinic, and more as a celebration of zines! What they are, their history in art and movement organizing, why they are important, and how they can aid and connect community during these raggedy-ass times.

Catch some of the crew this weekend at YAS Fest where we will be going hard about zines, hosting a mini reading room, and passing out our cute af flyer, spreading the good word!

As an organizing group, we spent time thinking about our values to help pull the project together and so i want to share them!

We believe in collective liberation, and we are organizing at the intersection of art making, community building, and political action to create radical, intentional space. Zine Scene Festival Hawaiʻi is created for community, by community, using Zine-making as our shared tool for storytelling, education, and connection. We are committed to:
    ▪    Centering Joy and Resistance: Cultivating a protective space for folks systemically oppressed. We have  zero tolerance for bigotry of any kind.
    ▪    Empowerment Through Disruption: Fostering a creative ecosystem that challenges dominant narratives and empowers our communities.
    ▪    Intentional Care Over Urgency: Moving with purpose, transparency, and clear communication.
    ▪    Access & Safety: Ensuring our space is welcoming, responsive, and accessible.
    ▪    Group Participation: Using collaborative decision-making—weighing Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition, and Next Steps.
    ▪    Right Relation: Mindfully examining how we take up space and how we make space for others. by @bmandel117

This is a zine I made over the summer after visiting the @pinakothekdermoderne ‼️ they had such an abundance of beautiful museum literature and I was so inspired I spent the whole afternoon working on this at a public library. The whole thing is collaged onto a giant broadsheet that served as the gallery labels for the jewelry exhibit.
Do you think this is cool?? Then you should come make zines with me!! ZINE CLUB SEPTEMBER 30 AT THE HONOKAA PUBLIC LIBRARY 5-7PM. If you are a total beginner I have prompts for you! If you are an experienced artist I have fresh supplies for you! If you are anywhere in between I have good vibes for you!!
Zines are for everyone and everything. DIY forever!!
PS delacorte.employees you will not believe how shocked I was to walk into a random museum in germany and find BE IN THE PARK, huge. by @bmandel117

max and I got married ‼️‼️ on 2.2.25 at an ice cream party turned surprise wedding, which is exactly what it sounds like. we have been together for 14/10/9.75 years depending on when you start counting and we love each other cuckoo bananas. we will also have a "real wedding" at some point eventually (this one was largely for health insurance/fun/ice cream). um yeah so now we have a real anniversary for the first time ever. thank u for the pic and all your documentation @turmericandclay and to our wonderful friend abi for officiating and to our beautiful community for eating all the ice cream and sorbet we made. in lieu of gifts tear down the United States government by @bmandel117

very wonderful to visit the Waimea of Kaua‘i and see how it is different and similar to the Waimea I am happy to call home... as always when visiting other islands it is so amazing to me to witness the markers of geological time differentiating them. on the older islands I am reminded constantly of one of my favorite truths: everything changes beyond absolute recognition. it all comes from pele and transforms so completely. it's so awesome. and as always I try and pay attention to the tiniest things in addition to the enormous ones. can't find an identification for this tiny beetle that hung out on my shirt the entire time we were at the lookout, does anyone know? and the bird is a white tailed tropicbird, watching them circle on the wind currents was delightful. okay yay I feel so lucky to live in this beautiful place. taken in Waimea Canyon State Park by @bmandel117

these are the pages of a zine I made recently. I'm having top surgery this week, and I realized i would need to come out to a lot of people in the coming weeks. I wanted an easy, approachable way to share about myself and answer questions that not everyone knows to ask.
being trans is beautiful and revelatory and constant and endless. it is the way I understand my entire life. there are many people, including those in power over this country, who think I'm wrong. who think I'm mutilating my body. not only are they wrong, they will never know this kind of joy and community. the support and excitement I have felt from my friends and loved ones these past few weeks has been incredibly affirming. thank you, and I love you, and I'm happy to be on this journey with you.
now and forever: the world only spins forward. we will be citizens. more life! by @bmandel117
