Your most unhinged thought could be a conspiracy theory. And that’s okay! It’s Been a Minute host Brittany Luse chats with the duo behind the podcast Who? Weekly, Bobby Finger and Lindsey Weber, to discuss their most unhinged beliefs. "I Want to Be Famous: When Everybody and Nobody Is a Celebrity," is their new book where they explore what they’ve learned about the ephemeral nature of fame, celebrity, and our collective obsession with reality television. by @bmluse

As we grow older, how can we reconcile all the images of our mother — an authoritarian, a beauty queen, and an arbiter of right and wrong, into this older and quieter version of her? Or as author Mary H.K. Choi explains, “...this smaller drawing of my mother who's rendered in graphite rather than insane Baroque shadows and oil painting.” 'It’s Been a Minute' host Brittany Luse (@bmluse) and 'Pool House' author Mary H.K. Choi (@choitotheworld) discuss the tragically complicated relationships between mothers and daughters.

drowning in mental health content? these creators follow a classic content marketing formula: name a problem the viewer cares about, then offer a solution.

the formula falls apart if they stop framing mental health struggles as discrete problems with simple labels (“he’s a narcissist,” “you’re anxiously attached”) or stop offering solutions that benefit their brand (“watch this video to the end,” “take my course”).

in that way, therapyspeak is a boon for any creator looking to please the algorithm, activate your emotions and make you hungry for easy answers 🙃

i’m on @npr’s “it’s been a minute” with @bmluse and @drmarisagfranco discussing attachment styles, “therapyspeak” and the promise and pitfalls of online mental health content. by @bmluse

Optimization, once a term that referred to how to make systems more efficient, is now being used to talk about self-improvement. Your hair, skin, teeth — even the whites of your eyes can all be prodded into perfection. But have we hit a tipping point? Are people starting to opt out of this pursuit of perfection? It's Been a Minute host Brittany Luse (@bmluse) chats with reporter Amanda Mull to understand what’s happening when optimization goes too far.

Nara Smith, the influencer known for her over-the-top cooking videos recently appeared on "Call Her Daddy" to publicly address her million of followers to say: She’s not a trad-wife. The announcement was a shock, especially since her name and brand have become synonymous with the trad-wife movement. "It’s Been a Minute" host Brittany Luse (@bmluse) and Ira Madison III (@irathethird) discuss whether her explanations fall short.
