Big Sur Reverse Hill Climb

… in my 1969 BMW 1600-02, colloquially know as a 2002. I probably owe @earthtorobots more credit than I have given but also not every good vibe needs to live on the internet. Several years ago, good ol’ Joshy plucked me out of my SoCal comfort zone and put me on isolated backroads with some folks I’ve come to know and love.

My truth… I’m kind of bored with car shows but I never get tired of stuff like this. Slow car fast on a squiggly road type shit. I’m not an event planner. I’m a driver!

I’m sitting this rally season out and I’m kind of sad about it. I will miss my RR family this year, but hopefully I’ll be back in 2027.

FORBIDDEN BY LAW

My 1969 BMW 1600-02. All natural skins and seats, mechanically overhauled by MANOFIED. The ultimate sleeper hides a stroked M20 under the bonnet. Wheels widened and wrapped with Pirelli CN36, suspension sorted with Ireland Engineering subframe parts and Bilstein dampers, custom E30 M3 prop shaft, Reese roof rack, Magnaflow exhaust, and everything accented with a Cashmere Cowboys handmade air freshener.

Matt Schwartz

Matt is the Founder of Manila and the Co-Founder of Numbers Matching.

Matt is one of the many friends who keep my vintage BMW alive. Rumor has it, he even donated blood to help get my wiring sorted. 4 hours, 3 stitches, 2.5 wiring diagrams and one trip to urgent care resulted in me having functioning stop and reverse lights.

But I digress.

They say it isn’t clout that make the man, it’s the character he displays in the face of adversity. I’ve been lucky enough to witness Matt’s peaks and valleys over the past 6 years. Through it all, his determination is grittier than the top side of a Dogtown skateboard.

His latest venture @isitinmanila is growing like crazy. I remember when it was a simple idea birthed from an unmet need. Now it’s a legit platform helping motoring enthusiasts around the world.
