A moment of bliss.

📍American River, California

This spot is close to home, and I try not to take for granted how much beauty we grew up with.

A few things about the American River.
✅️ It was the starting point of the California Gold Rush
✅️ It was named when California was part of New Spain after the precense of non native fur traders that were in the area
✅️ It's one of the biggest sources of hydroelectric energy in the area
✅️ It's pretty beautiful

Sequoias and redwoods seem to get all the love, but ponderosa pines are pretty amazing as well.

🌲 They can grow up to 50 meters in height and 2 meters in diameter, with the tallest one sitting at 79 meters! (260 feet)
🌲 They're fire resistant, and can survive up to a 75% crown scorch during a forest fire
🌲They straight up smell good. Their bark gets co.pared to vanilla and butterscotch
🌲 Their seeds have wings and use the wind as a means of dispersal. They literally fly off into the sunset

Pismo Beach is more than just a relaxing beach town. There's plenty of adventure to be found in the area. Here are a few amazing spots to save for your next trip. 💚

📍Ontario Ridge
Beautiful views of the coast throughout the entire hike and a cliffside swing overlooking the ocean.

📍Pismo Dunes
You could wander these dunes for hours. Bring a sandboard or an ATV, or just get there few some epic sunsets.

📍Pier San Luis
The best place in the area to see wildlife. Catchbsome food on the pier and watch the harbor seals and otters relax in the bay.

📍Pismo Beach Pier
A staple of the area. Do your souvenir shopping, have some food overlooking the beach, and relax at the beach.

📍Oso Flaco
This unique trail takes you over a walkway that goes across the entire lake and off onto the beach.

📍Pirate's Cove
Beautiful views of the coast, and cliffside cave, and a beautiful beach, all in one place.

The best part about these spots?

They all have amazing spots right around the corner to pair for a day trip.

📍Bullard's Bar Resevoir

A short distance from Nevada City and adjacent to the beautiful Yuba River, this spot has plenty to do in the area. The resevoir itself has some of the coolest water color around and is a great spot for hiking and water sports

📍Salmon Creek Falls

At the south end of Big Sur, this short hike has a big payoff, with tons of beautiful spots right in the area. Not to mention Hearst Castle and Piedra Blanca Lighthouse.

📍Rim of the World

This beautiful overlook is on Highway 120, 30 minutes away from the entrance to Yosemite National Park. Take a little time on the way in or out to appreciate the grandeur.

📍Emerald Bay

The crowned jewel of Lake Tahoe, this is probably the most scenic area on the lake. It has tons of great views, and you can make a day of it by exploring Cascade Falls and Eagle Falls while you're at it.

📍Fitzgerald Marine Reserve

Not far south of San Francisco, this spot has amazing tide pools, great seal viewing areas, and an amazing forest beach combo. Hop up to Devil's Slide down the road while you're there.

Where is this hidden gem?

Emerald Pools is a picturesque swimming hole fed by the Yuba River. It sits in between Lake Tahoe and Sacramento, California, and its proximity to the highway makes it an ideal stop for anyone planning a weekend in North Lake Tahoe or the surrounding areas.
