The Letters Of Enchantment duology—DIVINE RIVALS and RUTHLESS VOWS by Rebecca Ross
★★★★★/5
I wish I could explain truly how much books mean to me, but this duology really held a special place in my heart. This book really instills the idea that writing on a paper is SO important and can change your life. (i.e. journaling and manifestation) That’s how I feel about books i think… they change your life!
I absolutely loved the story of Iris and Roman, their love was so beautiful!!!! Always love a little enemies to lovers (but were they ever REALLY enemies?)
I’m absolutely sobbing over the ending and couldn’t control myself. I spent so long trying to finish the second book because I always freak myself out about the fact that when i’m done the story will be over. But it was so worth it to finish.
The main characters made the book so amazing but the addition of the supporting characters made it even better. Tobias was one of my favorites and I truly don’t know why but he tugged my heart strings. And Attie! I love her so much, she was the sweetest little best friend character possible. Marisol gave super mom energy and I absolutely loved that about her.
I couldn’t recommend this duology enough it was so beautifully written!!!!!! It literally took a piece of my heart and won’t return it. by @bnbreads

FOURTH WING by Rebecca Yarros ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

We read this guy together (sort of) but this is both of our reviews!!! We also did a pic of both of our books in our different worlds 🫶🏻

@bellsilvs -
wowowoowow. Holy shit. I have not read a book this good in a LONG TIME. Probably since ACOTAR or From Blood and Ash. But even those don’t really compare. For the first novel in a series this book blows those out of the water.
I was addicted from page 20 and tried to literally savor every chapter. From the suspense, world building, magic, spice, plot and twist this book is everything.
Rebecca Yarros is a genius living among us with this one. I have never felt so connected to main character or felt so many things while reading. I genuinely laughed and cried reading this book.
And HOLY SHIT THE LAST PARAGRAPH. Just read it. If you’re into fantasy, magic, dragons, sexy main characters and a heavily layered and intricate plot this book is for you.

@ayybaybaay -
I can’t even fathom how badly I wish fantasy books were real. Every single time I read one I just feel the strongest sense of desire to belong in one. It honestly burns in my soul. I love dragons and I loved this book. I would read it every single chance that I got. I do feel like some parts were very obvious, there were no twists or turns or anything to me. THE FACT THAT THEY CAN TALK TO DRAGONS in this was absolutely the thing that has made me the most jealous I’ve ever been in my life. I NEED fantasy novels to be real and it would be wonderful if I lived in this one. Definitely recommend to anyone who loves dragons, world building, enemies to lovers, and drama ✨ taken in Fantasy World by @bnbreads

GHOSTS by Dolly Alderton

Meet Nina George Dean— Age 31, single and a successful writer. She’s clearly got it all together, then along comes Max. He declares he’s going to marry her on the first date, he’s a walking RED FLAG!!! To the rest of us at least. The title means so much more, there are so many ghosts in Nina’s life. The ghost of people online, the ghost of who her father was, the ghosts of your friendships with people who have grown a little differently than you have, and the ghosts of the life she always thought she’d have.
I went back and forth with this book so many times on whether or not I liked it. In the end though, I didn’t just like it, I loved it. I think I had a really hard time because I am eagerly awaiting the start of Fourth Wing….I’m in a fantasy mood✨
So I believe that’s the only reason I was wishy-washy. Because this book was so wonderful; it was so real, raw, and loving. It had me giggling to myself, and crying at the same time. It instilled my fear of getting older, and watching the people I love around me age as well. It reminded me just how beautiful life is, how each moment is supposed to be cherished.
Highly recommend this book to everyone, very happy my sweet friend recommended it to me 💫💝🫶🏻

THE CRUEL PRINCE
OKAY so everyone in the book world told me that if I liked ACOTAR I should read this book. I’ll be honest I was a little hesitant when I found it in the YA section of Barnes and Nobel bc that generally means there isn’t enough 🌶️ for me… and I was RIGHT!!!

This book is good… well maybe let’s just leave it at okay. It very much gave young adult fantasy. There wasn’t enough substance, world building, or character building for me to feel remotely invested in the story.

I feel like I would’ve LOVED this book in elementary or middle school during the peak hunger games era. But as I have aged my taste has developed and this book just left me wanting more. There was SO MUCH POTENTIAL.

Overall if you don’t care about spice and want an easy, kinda boring fantasy book that has no spice and an average plot with a somewhat interesting twist. This one’s for you.

NORMAL PEOPLE by Sally Rooney

★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ 2/5 or 4/10

To be honest, from the very beginning I thought I wasn’t going to finish this book. I didn’t like the writing style AT all. I think the whole purpose of the book was to make the reader feel exhausted by the end. There are no quotation marks in the dialogue, which makes you have to reread some sentences to figure out when they’re actually even talking. It felt very laid back, I’m assuming to show how life of “normal people” can be. However, the story did grab me a little… and then I couldn’t put it down. And honestly, I don’t even know why….

I HATED Connell, the way he treated Marianne really, genuinely pissed me off. Rocked me to my core. How embarrassed he was to be seen with her? Embarrassing for him. It frustrated me how little he seemed to actually care about her.

I wanted Connell to feel bad for his treatment of her. I did thoroughly enjoy how honest Connell was majority of the time. For the life of me, I could NOT understand why Marianne allowed herself to be in ANY of the relationships she was in. I understand that the whole point of it was that she came from an emotionally and physically abusive family. In no way was she trying to deter from this behavior that she was given her whole life, it makes it seem like Connell was the best option for her. But in reality, he treated her just as badly as the rest of them.
I just didn’t come away from this book in love. The characters often bothered me during the whole book and I never really liked them. To me, their relationship was perceived extremely boring, I could never really figure out if they liked each other at all. Honestly, I couldn’t tell if they liked anyone in their lives. It made me feel very sad reading this book!! There was a lot of reflecting on self love and self worth in this book, which I did enjoy seeing that aspect. But Marianne was sooooo self deprecating it was exhausting.
Overall, the book was extremely popular to many, but just not my cup of tea!

THE MAIDENS
BY ALEX MICHAELIDES

Wow. This book was just what I needed. When I read a book in 3 sittings you know it’s good.

A fast paced psychological thriller set at the luscious and historic campus of Cambridge University. With a main character with a background in psychology and a murderer terrorizing the campus it was *chefs kiss*

From the writing style and the building of suspense I was sucked in from the first 50 pages. The author does an incredible job keeping the pace fast while simultaneously including so much detail. I was never bored, there were never any dull moments, I was HOOKED.

This book has a magical way of getting you absolutely absorbed into the story. From the depth of the characters to the incredible, descriptive imagery it plays like a movie. I was THERE with them.

Think old money secret cult society meets murder mystery with a hint of psychology and Greek mythology. It checked all the boxes I gave for a TWISTED thriller.

I thought I had the ending all figured out but BOY WAS I WRONG. Alex Michaelides has a SKILL for twists. I highly recommend reading their other novel, The Silent Patient, as well.

ALSO bonus points for this novel overlapping worlds with their previous novel, it was a very fun IYKYK moment when the worlds collided!

ARCHER’S VOICE by Mia Sheridan
Rating: 3.5/5 or 5/10
I decided to read this book due to all of the book tok and Instagram reels where everyone said that it was so wonderful. I understand that it appeals to the similar crowd that enjoys Colleen Hoover. And I am a fan of her books so I will say this one was still pretty good. I’m just not reading anything lately that feels like WOW, that was AMAZING. The kind of books you could actually read again and again and again.

Archer and Bree were both very sweet, tender-hearted characters and I loved them both. In this book, along with Colleen Hoover books, it seems like the author tries to jam in so many sad, traumatic stories about the characters to make you care about them. This one feels right up that alley, both of the main characters have these heartbreaking pasts and it’s very cliché. Obviously, you’d have to have a heart of ice to not feel bad for the characters and their stories but I just felt it was very over the top with all of it.
Also, this book bordered porn-y vibes, and very cringey at that. I guess I just wasn’t expecting there to be so many sex scenes (what would they be called in a book? Lol) but seriously, it felt like every single chapter they were banging. It’s too much, and so cringe. Why is it that there’s always “wetness” POOLING in between a woman’s thighs? I genuinely felt so uncomfortable in public reading some of the sexual interactions in this book. Other normal parts of the book were very few and far between 🫣

I loved the quirky, little town vibes but why is there someone who “owns” the town? What is this?

All in all, the story itself was charming. I would recommend to someone that is looking for an unconventional romance, also if you’re a fan of Colleen, I think this would be right up your alley. The characters are easily lovable and the romance is enjoyable!

Happy reading 📖 🪩🌼🩷

BLACK SWANS BY EVE BABITZ
7/10

This book is a collection of nine stories all about moments in the authors life while living out her early adulthood in the hustle and bustle of old Hollywood Los Angeles. She takes us through feelings of jealousy, her time spent at the Rodeo Gardens, taking tango classes in the valley and weekends spent in Malibu with her eccentric and eclectic friends.

I loved and hated this book all at the same time. So let’s get into what I LOVED and what I DIDN’T LOVE….

LOVED: Her prose and the way she romanticizes life in L.A. She makes you feel like you are living life with her, meanwhile you also are seeing the flaws in her ways and seeing her for the crazy, real, and messed up person she is.

DIDN’T LOVE: The pace at times was slow and she leaned slightly narcissistic and shallow. Certain occasions of her life were not my cup of tea and her actions were questionable. However maybe that’s just the reality of a deeply complex and real human being.

Overall I think this is worth a read. It was a great switch up from my usual fantasy or romantic thriller reads. It’s perfect for my fellow L.A. people!! Or if you just love Los Angeles in general ❤️

Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood
4/5 stars
This was really good. I wanted it to hit as hard as ACOTAR and it didn’t but it was still REALLY good. Incredible world building. It’s basically a faerie world in present day which was interesting to read about! Exciting and unique characters, as well as a lot of twists and turns that kept up the pace of the book. I just wasn’t AS invested in the storyline as other fantasy novels I have read.

Overall I would recommend to anyone who wants to read a new Fae spicy drama. Instead of the battles in ACOTAR, it gives more detective vibes.

Don’t come for me for the books condition, it travelled with me to Mexico and it seriously went through the ringer and I’m so thankful for the cover 🫣
****spoiler alert****
I personally felt like this was actually a perfect follow up the first book, I might even say I’m excited for the third book. I felt like the characters lost a little bit of their depth but they were still lovable and captivating. Let me just say after the first book I was going to be DEVASTATED if the golden boy of Lethe never came back and THANK god he did. However, I wish there would’ve been more information about Darlington and his time in this book, he definitely deserved more attention than he was given. But boy do I wanna hear more about the golden horned demon himself 🥵 He’s the main reason I’ll be waiting for the third book. And Alex, of course. I love her.
And guys, magic is real. I repeat magic IS REAL! I’ve decided.
Anyway, overall very pleased with this and the story line expanding. Wonderful, powerful, magical story and I’m invested in the world of Lethe. Can’t wait for more! by @bnbreads
