Skate Kolombo enables the blending of global skateboarding culture with Sierra Leonean artistic expression, creating a unique identity that celebrates both local heritage and the universal language of skateboarding

Three years ago, I went on a mission in Sierra Leone with Boarders Not Borders and one of my best mates, @lucas_decaestecker.photo

Lucas brought his analogue camera along and captured a lot of beautiful moments and people. These have never been published (yet). He was kind enough to let me share some of my favourites.

We were there to build the first skate ramp of the country.

I still remember arriving in Freetown and feeling incredibly small. Everything was so different, yet so beautiful.

@kojokubii had secured a permit to build in Makump, a pretty remote village where most people had never even heard of skateboarding.

What followed touched me. The people, the culture, the stories and the warmth we experienced while staying with them.

I knew when we left that I wanted to come back. I just didn’t know what that would look like.

Three years later, I do.

This time, I’m going back to build calisthenics parks for the youth and local communities.

On October 12th, we’re driving an old Hilux from Belgium all the way to Salone.

We are now in the final stages of upgrading the hilux and
still looking for some partners/sponsors to work with..

Really looking forward to everything that’s coming.

Follow and I’ll take you with us on this journey x

And if you feel generous, link to donate for the project in my bio x
