I remember seeing Fury of Dracula when @itswilwheaton would host TableTop series 9 years ago, and now we can finally say we own it and it’s just as amazing as we imagined 😍

It’s also perfect for today’s #boardtober2026 prompt, HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT, because it’s a hidden movement game.

In Fury of Dracula, one player is Dracula and everyone else is a hunter, trying to find and defeat him before he can spread his terror across Europe!

[AD/GIFTED] Avalon Hill Games kindly sent us this as a pre-release back in July, but we wanted to save our review until spooky season.

🎲 How It Plays

Dracula moves around Europe in secret, leaving a trail of face-down location tiles and sneaky encounters behind him. The hunters search the map to work out where he’s been and where he’s heading next.

Dracula isn’t just hiding, though. He’s spawning new vampires and building his influence the whole time, so the hunters can’t take forever.

Hunters win by defeating Dracula, and Dracula wins if he gets his influence track to space 13 first.

When the hunters finally catch up, combat starts. We would describe the combat like rock paper scissors, where Dracula and any involved hunters reveal a card then see who comes out on top. This is repeated until either the hunters or Dracula is defeated, or one of the sides flees, and the chase begins again!

Each card has symbols that can counter the opposing action, while also inflicting damage or other effects. It felt really tense!

🦇 Why We Love It

Playing as Dracula is where the real fun lies. Laying false trails and watching the hunters argue over where you’ve gone is brilliant, especially when they confidently head in completely the wrong direction 👀

We love new artwork, it looks fantastic and really enhances that gothic-horror feel. 🖤

We really appreciate the new quick-play variant (designed by Dave Chalker) which reduces by @boardgametablefor2

👋 hey everyone!

we’re karl and katie, a board game couple from staffordshire 🇬🇧

we’ve been quietly lurking in the board game scene for a while now and, to be totally honest, we’ve been scared to finally press that first ‘create post’ button and start this account.

but here we go! first post ✅

I (karl) have been enjoying board games since 2017. my first board game was actually betrayal at house on the hill from @avalonhillgames, after my group of friends had a board game night where we played pokemon monopoly (don’t judge us! 😂). from that point, I really wanted to make it a weekly night so I assigned myself as the one buying all the board games 🤭

I then introduced katie to the world of board games when we got together in 2024, and brought her her first game, patchwork: halloween edition! (she is a horror girl at heart so it fit the theme perfectly!)

when we purchased our house in 2025, I had a dream of sharing our little cosy corner… however, with buying a house and starting a life together, I always found an excuse to not start.

today I’m changing that and making this first post.

without rambling on too much longer, we wanted to introduce ourselves and say hello!!!

and also show you a few pictures of our current collection.

let us know if you spot any of your favourites, or if you have any recommendations of us! we’d love to make new friends and grow our collection more ☺️

There’s going to be something different in our pictures from now on…

WE GOT ENGAGED! 🥰🥰🥰

While we were on holiday together last week, I had a little suprise in my pocket while we were away. Luckily, it went to plan but it was so stressful trying to hide it for the first few days!

Here’s an embarrassing moment too… I accidently had the ring facing the wrong way when I was down on one knee… Katie had to tell me because I had no idea 🤦‍♂️😂

We can’t wait for the next phase in our lives, with plenty of love, laughter and board games! ☺️

While we had a few games on holiday, we celebrated our engagement by playing Harmonies from @libellud as our first official table top game 🥰

Have you ever looked at a game and thought “That belongs on a gallery wall”? That’s Watercolor, a card-shedding game that plays as nicely as it looks. 🥰

In Watercolor, you and your opponent race to empty your hand of Digit cards by playing higher valued Numbers than each other. The first to collect two Prize cards wins!

🎨 How It Plays

On your turn, you play a Number made of Digit cards in either the same colour or of the same digit. It also needs to be higher in value than your opponent’s Number and use either the same amount of Digit cards or one more. Once you’ve played your Number you Get Inspired by taking a Digit card from any previous Number.

If you can’t or don’t want to play, you can Pass, which clears the table and lets your opponent start a new Number. Each player also has a Skill card to shake things up at just the right moment.

The round ends when a player plays their last Digit card, and they collect a Prize card. Once a player collects 2 Prize cards, they are declared the winner.

🌈 Why We Love It

The real delight of this game is the beautiful watercolour art, which now includes 6 Prize cards illustrated by @thespottedolive.

It’s very relaxing and calming, but the strategy comes from watching which Digit card your opponent takes, which gives you a hint of what they might play next.

The Skill cards add interesting powers that can help you or hinder your opponent, which can make it a little more cut-throat at times without being overpowered that the win is guaranteed.

💙 Is it a PLAY or DELAY?

This is a PLAY for us! Making their bundle 3 for 3.

It’s such a lovely card game that is the perfect ‘dessert’ for a slower date night.

NO TRESPASSING 🔒

To most people a No Trespassing sign means stay out. To a lock picker in New London, it looks a lot more like a challenge. 😏

Triplock from @chiptheorygames is a solo or two player game of skill and memory. You peek at and swap the mechanisms on each lock, then work out how to crack it before the room beats you.

Whenever we play Gumblers, one game can quickly become 3 or 4 👀

In Gumblers, you and your opponent are pushing your luck. You call your shots, roll a die and race to fill your gumbo bowl with 5 unique ingredients!

🎲 How It Plays

On your turn, you look at your Call Your Shot card and choose one to call out, then roll the die. If your roll matches your call, you earn the Gumbo Bucks listed on the card. If it doesn’t, you still get 1 Gumbo Buck. At the end of your turn, you can spend your Gumbo Bucks at Mama Gumbino’s Market Stand to buy ingredients. The first to collect all five ingredients wins.

You can also push your luck on your opponent’s turn by Reading the Gumbones and counter calling their shot. Get it right and you take the Gumbo Bucks they would have earned, and they only get 1. Get it wrong and they earn two extra on top of what they earned.

🥘 Why We Love It

There’s a lot of strategy packed into one die roll. Higher calls pay out more, but you’re never left empty handed, as you always earn a single Gumbo Buck on your turn. You also have to decide whether to save your Gumbo Bucks for the pricier ingredients or spend early for the cheaper ones.

Calling high shots is addictive, and we’ve seen so many options packed into a single die roll!

It’s quick at 15 minutes a game, and if you’re really lucky you could play one in as little as 5 minutes! I don’t know how, but I (Karl) called 3 single numbers correctly IN A ROW 😅 - I should have tried the lottery honestly!

💙 Is it a PLAY or DELAY?

This is definitely a PLAY, for being so simple and addictive! ✨

Another great one for starting date night or even playable in between the main games - like a palette cleanser!

DO NOT OPEN…

In Final Girl, each character has a secret envelope that you are instructed not to open unless they survive as the ‘final girl’.

We are yet to open any of these since we haven’t escaped a single killer. So for now these will stay sealed, tormenting us with suspense until we do… like a true horror!

It may just be a can’t or will never open at this stage 🤣

Two players, two hands of cards, two games of Rock Paper Scissors... at the same time!

In Rock Paper Scissors 2, you and your opponent try to talk each other into winning (or losing) each game and claim the best prizes.

🪨 How It Plays

Each round, you both see the top prize card of two stacks, one for THIS game and one for THAT game. You then decide whether you want to win or lose each one. You can negotiate, lie, bribe or simply tell the truth. When you’re ready, you each play a Rock, Paper or Scissors card on each stack and reveal them together.

The winner of each stack takes the prize card you could both see, and the loser takes the one underneath, which could be much better or much worse. So you can win and still lose, or lose and still win!

Once both prize card stacks run out, the player with the most points wins.

📄 Why We Love It

Watching your partner decide whether to believe you is hilarious. If you want to know if you’re partner has a poker face, this is a game to test that 🤣 We had a few rounds get a little heated when one of us lied our way to a win 👀

There’s risk and variety in the prize cards. We love how everyone is unaware of the 2nd prize card, especially when the top card is a negative score so you’re both trying to lose. Do you take the loss, or risk it?

Like all 3 of their games, it takes up very little table space. So far we've played it at a restaurant, at home, on the table, on the floor and on the sofa!

✂️ Is it a PLAY or DELAY?

This is a PLAY for us.

It won't be for everyone, because it revolves heavily around social deduction and manipulating your opponent, but we were pleasantly surprised. For us, it was a great starter game for date night. ☺️

CAREFUL WHO YOU TRUST 👀

In Betrayal at House on the Hill from @avalonhillgames, 3 to 6 players explore a creepy house together, building it as they go, encountering events and collecting items and omens along the way.

Eventually a haunt is triggered, and one of you turns out to be the traitor. Nobody knows who it will be until it happens, so you should keep an eye on what items people pick up, because it could decide your fate.

With over 50 haunts that can be triggered, this is highly replayable and is Karl’s absolutely favourite game of all time. We just wish it could be played at 2 player!

In 2 weeks’ time, we’ll be at the @mcrboardgamefestival 🎃

It runs from Friday 30th October to Sunday 1st November at the Sachas Hotel in Manchester and we’ll be there all 3 days! 👻

It’ll be packed with game demos, a play to win shelf, charity quizzes and bingo, independent vendors, and a 700+ game library to dive into!

This will be our first ever event, and a Halloween special felt like the perfect start our event journey.

We can’t wait to play loads of games and finally meet so many friends we’ve only spoken to online so far (we’re very nervous and scared about this 😱)

It’s Thursday which can only mean one thing… it’s #threegamethursday (hosted by @our_tabletop_home) but we’ve also combined it with WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN for #boardtober2026 (hosted by @getintogames).

THAT NIGHT, EVERYTHING CHANGED

(Day 14 of #boardtober2026, hosted by @getintogames)

Before any of this, a few friends and I (Karl) had a weekly gaming night, mostly playing Mario Party, Mario Kart and other similar games on the Switch. But one night we decided to play a friend’s Monopoly, the Pokémon version. Monopoly might be a game everyone hates because of how long it lasts or the arguments it can cause but I loved the interactions and the laughs.

I enjoyed it so much that I really wanted to keep this going and so I went out and bought my first board game, Betrayal at House on the Hill (from @avalonhillgames)

Now we’re 180+ board games deep, and use this instagram to share our love for them (of which almost 1500 of you follow 😱) and it all started with that one night.
