Surprised myself ticking off 10 new 5.13’s this year 🤯

Extra special to finish this goal on a family day trip to one of my favorite places. Huge thanks to @tiny.meeks & @mandalee9592 for their support - juggling toddler duty, belays, and even snapping photos!

@tiny.meeks AKA super-Mama ❤️

Happy to be on #cityofrocks granite again ❤️

Also finished the second tier goal with a 5.13 on at least 4 different rock types: Granite, limestone, sandstone, and choss conglomerate

Balancing work, fatherhood, and climbing goals leaves no room for wasted time. Recently I’ve found myself jogging to/from the crag out of necessity—and not always making it home exactly on time… (sorry @tiny.meeks !). Managed to sneak out on a 1-hour lunch break strike mission to send ‘Slim Shady’ (12d), easily one of the best pitches I’ve climbed all year. Thanks @chasekrumholz for rallying and snapping photos! taken in Teton Canyon Campground by @boardjumpz

City of Rocks, Idaho. A place loved by many, and especially cherished by climbers.

Over the years, the ASCA has supplied around 700 anchors and lower offs, along with more than 1100 bolts for replacement and maintenance efforts at the City of Rocks.

Many volunteers have contributed to maintaining the climbing resources, in particular the prolific @dbing621 has been a constant force over the years.

Recent active volunteers @boardjumpz @aziggy32_ and @camdonkay have been getting lots of work done in collaboration with the park.

A big thank you to @cityofrocksnps for working with volunteers to issue rebolting permits, this work is critical for climber safety.

With fixed hardware dating back many decades, bolt replacement plays an important role in maintaining climbing resources.

On many routes, dedicated lower-off anchors replace a variety of old anchor systems, simplify descents, reduce the need for climbers to open their systems at the top of routes, and make climbing safer and more efficient for everyone.

The City has a big variety of pitch lengths, along with many multi pitch routes - not all pitches will be appropriate for lower off hardware here.

Always close your system with a knot at the end of your rope, many pitches at the City require an 80 meter to get down!

Standout day of the season for us was ripping lap after lap in the Sun Tunnel - chasing monsters, practicing turns, and learning to fall in love with snowboarding ❤️

What’s even more exciting is @powdermountain is allowing kids 12 and under to ski for FREE (with an adult season pass). They’re also putting a ton of upgrades to the Sundown base area with two new lifts for next season and a new lodge for 27/28 - it’s gonna be awesome for young families like ours. Already stoked for next season filled with giggles, hot cocoas, and BIG DUMPS at pow mow. taken in Powder Mountain by @boardjumpz

Waiting for snow and reflecting on such a great climbing year. Managed to squeeze out twice as many 5.13’s in about half the days as last year, but the main goal was balancing fatherhood, work, moving, and being a slightly above average partner to @tiny.meeks ❤️

Maybe next year I’ll try for some halfway decent photos, all I have to show for it are these crappy screenshots of the local choss by @boardjumpz

Checked off some big goals on a quick 4-day trip to Kentucky but it wasn’t without some drama. On the last day, I fell off the very top of my project & destroyed my finger in the process (slide 4). I threw in the towel and was proud of the effort, but it was bittersweet to not finish the route.

As I got ready for the 2 mile hike out, a local pointed out that the Lexington airport security was rarely a long wait, and convinced me I had time for one more try before my flight. Still pumped from my previous go, I tied in & gave it a final Hail Mary buzzer beater attempt.

Somehow I held on through the dynamic bottom half & found myself under the final move that had been spitting me off. My finger held together with superglue and tape crimped with everything I had left, and this time I stuck the move and finished the damn thing. You could not punch the smile off my face on that drive to the airport, and I made my flight with just enough time to spare.

Even though the pressure was all self inflicted, it’s cool to set a challenge you might fail on and still give it 💯. Climbing can be a silly game but it’s fun to test your own limits and push yourself out of the comfort zone.

Being a dad & getting the opportunity to even go on this trip is a privilege, but I also think it flips a switch to try 10x harder because I know these opportunities don’t come around very often. Super thankful for @tiny.meeks for letting me get out - I’m stoked to bring little Margot to this giant jungle gym one day.
