Haven’t been on here for a while!

Ever since starting law school, my focus has shifted away from illustration, but with the new year it’s felt good to get back into it!

Really grateful for opportunities to work with some old and new friends in Chicago and do some fun stuff here in Philly.

If you’re around, come catch me tabling at Philly Chinatown’s Chinese New Year Arts & Crafts Market this Sunday, February 11, 2pm-6pm on the crane center second floor!

As a Taiwanaese-American, I share a feeling of living in a middle space like so many others. With mounting aggression towards Asians in the US, it is especially important to reach an understanding with each other- within races and between races. Amidst the anger, fear, and frustration, sometimes it can be easy to "take sides" and turn the conflict into an "us" and "them" scenario. However in order to reach a state of coexistence, common ground must be made. Work in your local communities and remember at the end of the day, everyone is just human- flawed and subject under nature, law (ideally), and God.

I had the pleasure recently to make an illustration for my friend @nc_801 's article on the Asian-American experience. Specifically touching on the Taiwanese-American history, it's a great piece that provides some context and history for some of our perceived tension. Sometimes you don't reinvent the wheel

The circles (or, stones, coins, wheels) in 麻將 (Májiàng) are called 筒子 (tǒngzi) and are one of the traditional designs for 麻將 tiles. The designs are timeless, culturally relevant, and are inseparable from the game itself much like the suits in a deck of cards.

碰 (pèng) is a term for one of the groupings needed to form a complete hand. It is characterized by having 3 of the same tile.

Because of its size and shape, the first 筒子 tile is sometimes nicknamed 大餅 (dàbǐng) or "big pancake." by @boat.sai
