𝟷 ʏᴇᴀʀ. 𝟷𝟸 ᴍᴏɴᴛʜs. 𝟹𝟼𝟻 ᴅᴀʏs. ❤️‍🩹

That’s how long it’s been since I last used a topical, oral, or injectable steroid. That’s how long I’ve been enduring Topical Steroid Withdrawal, among countless other things.

Today, I am one whole year ❤️‍🩹 𝒮 𝒯 𝐸 𝑅 𝒪 𝐼 𝒟 𝐹 𝑅 𝐸 𝐸 ❤️‍🩹 For that, I am proud. 🥹

For the last two months, I’ve been sharing the backstory of my healing journey. The photos I shared with those parts of my story are old photos, when I was still using steroids to control my flares.

Part of me still mourns the woman in those photos. My skin was clear. My tattoos were crisp. My hair was long and full. I had no worries. I could eat what I wanted, drink what I wanted. My life felt normal.

And that life is very much dead and gone. 🥀

But today, I can finally say I’m ~𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘭𝘺~ okay with that.

I am truly a new person, inside and out. 🦋✨ Mentally, physically, emotionally. This experience has forever changed me, and I know I’ll never have that old life back. But day by day, slowly but surely, brick🧱 by motherfucking brick🧱, I am healing and finding my way to whatever this new version of me will be. ❤️‍🩹

Healing naturally is not for the weak. It is not the cheapest, the easiest, the least painful, or the quickest way, but it is the best way. Western medicine failed me. It made me sick, and it nearly killed me.

I’m overly emotional writing this and looking back at how far I’ve come, what I endured, and how strong I had to become.

More than anything, I’m grateful. For my friends, my family, and my boyfriend, who carried me through some of the darkest moments of this last year. I truly don’t know if I could have kept going without them.

And if you’re going through TSW, struggling with your health and feel like a prisoner in your own body, or feel shackled to prescription meds, please don’t lose hope.

Healing is NOT linear. It is not easy. Some days it doesn’t even feel like it’s happening. And then one day, you look back and realize just how far you’ve come.

365 days. No steroids.

And a (much healthier) lifetime left to go! ❤️‍🩹

In May of 2025, I had to have a biopsy done. I ended up developing an infection afterward and had to take antibiotics. At the time, I didn’t make any connection between the antibiotics and what was happening with my skin—but looking back now, it makes so much sense. 💡

Not long after, I spent a month in Indonesia followed by two and a half weeks in Australia. Between endless sunshine ☀️, swimming in the ocean🌊 , and eating fresh, simple food, 🍍🥑🥩🍓🍌🍜my skin looked better than it had in a long time. It felt like such a relief. But even then, I knew something still wasn’t right. I was constantly worried about what I ate, what I put on my skin, and whether the next flare was right around the corner.

A few days after returning home, I went in for my annual wellness visit and routine bloodwork with a new GP. Everything came back normal. I was told I was healthy as can be…

Then, just a few days later, I got incredibly sick with strep throat—something I hadn’t had since middle school—and ended up on another aggressive round of antibiotics.

After finishing them, my body finally had enough. It was begging for help.

My skin became extremely fragile and unpredictable. The flares became more frequent, and it was now getting uncontrollably worse in a shorter period of time: more steroid creams, more allergy pills, and eventually another steroid injection.

Labor Day weekend of 2025, I received what would become my last steroid injection ever.

Like always, my skin cleared. For a moment, everything looked good again.

But it didn’t last.

In early September, another severe flare hit—and this one finally pushed me over the edge. I knew I couldn’t keep repeating the same cycle.

I had absolutely NO idea what “healing” was about to look like—or what I would have to endure in the months ahead, but I knew it was time to do something more.

In July 2023, I left for six weeks in Europe with mostly normal skin. It was, of course, flawless the entire time I was abroad.

But somewhere between coming home and Christmas Eve, my skin changed completely — and I had no idea why.

About a month after I returned, random red, dry patches started appearing on my face, neck and chest — places I’d never had eczema before. I assumed it was a reaction to a new product.

But throughout that fall, the rash kept coming back. Each time, a little worse.

Then on Christmas Eve, I woke up with my face completely swollen and a severe rash covering my face, neck and chest. 🤕

For the next year, I discovered certain foods to be the culprit. Soy was the biggest trigger — and I quickly learned soy is in damn near EVERYTHING in the U.S. I also started reacting to things like oats, honey, kiwi and maple syrup.

Cutting them out helped. A lot. But the rash never completely disappeared. It became less frequent, yet more random — and that’s what stumped me.

Then, in December 2024, after yet another severe breakout in which I had to resort to an injectable steroid, I made two major changes.

After 14 years, I stopped taking birth control. I knew in my heart it was contributing and once I found out it was classified as a Level I Carcinogenic, it was a no brainer. I also went through everything I was putting on my body — makeup, skincare, shampoo, hair products — and realized some contained the exact ingredients I was trying so hard to avoid. Foundation with soy proteins. Shampoo with oats. I cleaned up as much as I could. (Shoutout Yuka.)

And for the first time, I felt like I’d made a huge breakthrough.

The rashes became mild and much less frequent, yet still prevalent…. Now something else was happening.

My skin kept getting drier and thinner — especially around my eyes. I remember looking at myself and thinking:

“I guess this is just part of getting older.”

Wrong.

I wasn’t getting older. Something else was happening beneath the surface — and the answer would explain far more than my skin.

Made my Orlando DJ debut today 🥹🎧

These photos were taken at my housewarming party back in February, DJing from my kitchen — and today, I played my first official gig for @dayliteorlando at Perla’s Pizza with @james.callahaniii - Pretty wild to see what can happen in six months.🤯

I’ve been working at this for quite some time behind the scenes, so it feels pretty surreal to finally start sharing it with you all — and to officially take the DJing outside of my kitchen 😂

This is just the beginning. Excited for what’s next 🖤🪩💃🏼

In 2021, after moving to Tampa, my health took another turn.

I developed severe allergy-induced asthma. One spring night, I could barely breathe.

An allergist suspected I was reacting to the area’s oak pollen and prescribed—once again—oral steroids. Dupixent came up again, and once again, I declined. She recommended comprehensive allergy testing, but after recently losing my job, I couldn’t justify the expense.

Around the same time, I started experiencing random facial rashes and swelling.

Eventually, I realized my face reacted every time I wore sunscreen—even products labeled “dermatologist approved” and made with minimal ingredients.

I stopped wearing sunscreen completely and started relying on hats instead. The reactions became less frequent, but they never disappeared.

At the time, I chalked it up to another chapter in the same story I’d been living my entire life.

I thought I just had “bad skin.” 😵‍💫

What I didn’t realize…

…was that my skin wasn’t the real problem.

It was trying to tell me something much bigger.

And that realization would change everything.

Let’s rewind to the beginning…

I’ve had eczema for as long as I can remember. Actually, longer than I can remember.

As a baby, my parents did what any loving parents would do—they took me to a dermatologist, trusting they were doing the right thing. They were told, “It’s hereditary.” “She’ll grow out of it.” 🤡

In the meantime, I was prescribed topical steroid creams.

Over the next 31 years, I lost count of how many I used. Hundreds, probably. Every time I’d use one exactly as directed, my skin would improve… until it didn’t. My body would build a tolerance, the eczema would come back even worse, and I’d find myself right back in the dermatologist’s office.

The solution?

A stronger steroid.

Then another.

And another.

To be fair, my eczema did improve as I got older. But it never truly went away. It was always there in the background, something I had to manage, fear, and plan my life around.

Every so often, I’d have a flare so severe that creams couldn’t touch it anymore.

That’s when oral steroids entered the picture.

And honestly? They worked like magic.

Until they didn’t.

Then came the era when Dupixent became the newest breakthrough in dermatology. It was recommended almost immediately.

On paper, it sounded promising. But something didn’t sit right with me. 🙅🏼‍♀️

For my entire life I’d been told eczema was chronic, incurable, and something I’d simply have to live with. Suddenly there was a medication I was expected to stay on indefinitely? I wasn’t convinced. I decided to wait until more long-term research existed.

Looking back… I’m incredibly grateful I trusted that instinct. 🙌🏻

Because what I thought was just eczema… was only the beginning.

Two hearts. One journey.

I’m honestly not even sure where to begin as I start typing this. What I do know is that I’m finally ready to share my story more publicly in the hope that it helps someone the way @leatswjourney helped me. If sharing my story helps just even one person feel less alone, that would make me happy. 🙌🏻

This whole healing experience has felt very isolating at times. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without my family, my boyfriend, my friends, and lovely strangers on Instagram showing up for me in the biggest ways.

But Lea... you’ve been such a pivotal part of my healing. Thank you for showing up, sharing your story so openly, and reminding me I wasn’t alone. And thank you @galeennn for bringing us together. 🫶🏻🫂

The last 10 months have been the hardest of my life. I truly wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. (Though, to be fair, I don’t really have enemies anymore... turns out resentment isn’t great for the nervous system. 🤣)

Eczema. 🩹 Topical steroid withdrawal. ❤️‍🩹 A compromised gut barrier. 🦠 Bacterial infections. 🧫 Candida and fungal overgrowth. 🍄 Parasites. 🪱 Mold toxicity. ☣️ Immune dysfunction. 🛡️💥 Histamine and mast cell issues. 🚨 Vitamin deficiencies. 🧬 A severe reaction to Cromolyn. 💊⚠️ A death scare. 🕊️🥀 A completely dysregulated nervous system. ⚡️🧠🌪️

And after three functional medicine doctors...

I’ve come a long damn way.

But the journey isn’t over yet.

Moving forward, I’m going to start sharing more—the highs, the lows, what helped, what didn’t, and everything I’ve learned along the way. Disclaimer: I am NOT a medical professional nor am I offering medical advice. I’m simply sharing my story and what’s worked for ME personally. 🙆🏼‍♀️

If you’ve made it this far in reading this whole caption, thanks for being here — stick around and stay awhile. 🦋✨
