An unforgettable evening with the incomparable Issa Rae! 🌟 From her journey as a creative powerhouse to her wisdom on storytelling, authenticity, and rooting for everybody Black, this conversation was everything I hoped it would be—and more. 🙌🏾💬

1️⃣st time we met he called me beautiful 😍
2️⃣nd time he said I smell good 🌸
3️⃣rd time I want to hear “Welcome to the team” 🤝🎥📺

#50Cent is so charming and perceptive. Always a pleasure to share space with a king 👑 and celebrate new endeavors. Like his 11th book #theaccomplice. I can’t wait to dig in! 🤓📖

I genuinely enjoyed #hustleharderhustlesmarter and everything from the #StarzPower universe so I trust this novel to be no different.

I’m ready to pitch my teen non-fiction story, boss. Let me know when you’re ready taken in Houston, Texas by @bobbypen

"I would not be here today if I hadn't had a Ford Foundation scholarship." Debbie Allen went home to Houston to receive the Houston Arts Alliance's Trailblazer Award, and she used the moment to talk about what happens when somebody invests in an artist early. Okay, Miss America dropped a GEM on me. 👑

I asked her about making history, and she said:

“Don’t try to make history. Show up as yourself and watch how that makes an impact.”

BABY. 😭

And this is the woman who just became the first Miss America crowned wearing her natural hair.

Sometimes the history happens because you showed up as yourself. ❤️ by @bobbypen

Okay… I JUST interviewed DEBBIE ALLEN. 😭✨

My first assignment for BET News, covering the Houston Arts Alliance’s Golden Gilded Gala, and I’m still processing the fact that I just had that conversation. 🥹

Planes. Press passes. Old friends. New memories. Family. A few borrowed couches. A lot of love. One unforgettable summer.

Back to the classroom next week, but I’ll always have Summer’26 ✈️🥹🫶

Mýa, Normani, Sevyn Streeter, Chloè, Ryan Destiny all did a phenomenal job. I know for sure Aaliyah would’ve loved that @essencefest tribute. Missy nailed it! Every look, every song, the sets, the choreography. Perfection! 🙌 Rest well, Baby Girl

Snowfall fans, I know y’all have been waiting on this one 👀

I caught up with the cast of FX’s The Drop: A Snowfall Saga at ESSENCE Fest for @theGrio, and we talked about stepping back into the world that had everybody locked in for six seasons.

The new series brings Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons back as they try to reinvent themselves in 1990s Los Angeles, where the aftermath of the crack epidemic collides with the rise of West Coast rap.

This time, Wanda sees music as her way forward while Leon is determined to leave the streets behind. Of course, ambition, loyalty, survival and street politics are all about to complicate that plan.

The Drop: A Snowfall Saga premieres Sept. 8 on FX and Hulu. 🎤

And yes, I have more from ESSENCE Fest coming. I was WORKING working. 😂 taken in New Orleans, Louisiana by @bobbypen

Brandy sang “Put That on Everything” at ESSENCE Fest and I am absolutely NOT OK. 😭😭😭

This is my favorite Brandy song. Ever. Like, of all the songs in that legendary catalog, THIS is my song.

Yeah… she put that on everything for real. 🥹🤎
