Well, that’s a wrap on another year at Popcorn Frights Film Festival! This year truly felt like it was programmed for me. Between some killer new features (the closing night film ‘Drag’ was awesome, other standouts include ‘Colony,’ ‘Unholy Night’ and Eric Zaldivar wonderful doc ‘Best Served Cold: How a Revenge Film was Buried for Decades.’), screening perhaps my favorite film of all time ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ along with ‘Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey’ with the great William Sadler in attendance. Hearing incredible stories from the talented and hilarious Michael Ironside alongside screenings of ‘Total Recall’ and ‘Scanners.’ The first ever (as far as I’m aware!) shadowcast of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ w/ the original directors cut ending (shoutout Erynn Dalton for a job well done!!!). Seeing ‘Polyester’ for the first time in Odorama as John Waters intended. A live commentary of ‘Sleepaway Camp’ from the wonderful and kind Felissa Rose. It was hit after hit after hit this year.

Michael Ironside ended his ‘Scanners’ Q&A yesterday by talking about how important it is that everyone at the fest has found their tribe, and that it’s something that needs to be cherished and maintained. Even though I’m only a part-time Floridian, this fest runs in my blood, and I couldn’t be more thankful for it. Cheers to and Marc along with the rest of the staff (Mercy, Luvy and all of the people over at Savor Cinema!). I’m so proud of the fest that we put on, and already can’t wait until next year! by @bobertharris

Living legends only live for so long, but their legends never die.

RIP Bob Weir. I know my Uncle Don and my Aunt Ilene and Uncle Charles are up there enjoying a hell of a reunion concert tonight. by @bobertharris

Friday at TIFF (I know, I know, I’m real late) features 6 movies of varying quality. First of was MILE END KICKS, a great little film about a young music critic trying to exist on her own for the first time, followed by DUST BUNNY, a fantastical horror movie that feels like it’s trying to be a kids movie but goes a bit to far for that sometimes. Next up was EASY’S WALTZ, which is a mess that features Vince Vaughn singing lounge songs shittily for about 25% of its run time. Then I had PROJECT Y, a fun and brutal heist movie about two sisters trying to get out of their rut followed by my favorite movie of the day YOU HAD TO BE THERE, a doc about the 1972 production of Godspell that was the start to so many comedic careers. Last up was THE NAPA BOYS, which was quite dumb but fun to watch with a Midnight Madness audience. by @bobertharris

Thursday featured only 4 movies, but they were 4 great ones: the touching crowdpleaser RENTAL FAMILY, the latest (fantastic) whodunnit from Rian Johnson WAKE UP DEAD MAN, the lovely and creative romantic comedy ETERNITY, and one of the best horror movies I’ve seen all year OBSESSION. by @bobertharris
