Milan -> Prague -> Vienna
The Orchid Light is officially on a whirlwind European tour.
From its debut at Milan Design Week in April to lighting up Prague’s iconic UPM museum for Designblok... it’s now headed to its next big moment.
We are thrilled to share that the Orchid Light is nominated for the prestigious Falstaff LIVING Design Award. The ceremony takes place this Monday at the legendary MAK Museum in Vienna (the quasi-sister venue to Prague’s UPM).

The calm before the October storm.

Spent the last week soaking in Corsica’s unreal contrast one day scaling mountain trails with views for miles, the next completely melted into the Mediterranean shore.

◾️ #MeetTheExhibitors: @bodo_sperlein / @bodosperleinstudio will present his first Prague exhibition at this year’s DesignBlok in the Pavilion of Czech Modernism in the gardens of the @upm_prague. Conceived as a creative portfolio in dialogue with Prague’s heritage, the exhibition will bring together furniture, lighting, porcelain, textiles, and concrete in collaboration with the brands @lobmeyr, @meissen_porcelain, GAN, @coordonne, and the Czech company @gravelli_design. The centerpiece of the installation will be a sculptural column made of Cascade paving stones, inspired by Emil Králíček’s Prague Cubist lamppost.

The 28th edition of DesignBlok, carrying the theme “Light”, will bring to life the Trade Fair Palace of the @ngprague, the Prague Castle Riding School, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, and the Industrial Palace at the @vystavistepraha . The festival will be open to the public from October 7–11, 2026, with the professional program and conference kicking off on October 6, 2026.

🇨🇿 Bodo Sperlein představí na letošním DesignBloku svou první pražskou výstavu v Pavilonu českého modernismu v zahradách Uměleckoprůmyslového musea. Expozice, pojatá jako tvůrčí portfolio v dialogu s pražským dědictvím, propojí nábytek, osvětlení, porcelán, textil i beton ve spolupráci se značkami Lobmeyr, Meissen, GAN, Coordonné a českou firmou Gravelli. Středobodem instalace bude sochařský sloup z dlažebních kamenů Cascade, inspirovaný pražskou kubistickou lampou Emila Králíčka.

28. ročník DesignBloku s tématem Světlo rozehraje Veletržní palác Národní galerie Praha, Jízdárnu Pražského hradu, Uměleckoprůmyslové museum v Praze a Průmyslový palác na Výstavišti Praha. Pro veřejnost se koná 7.–11. 10. 2026, program pro profesionály s konferencí již od 6. 10. 2026.

Celebrating over 300 years of Meissen’s @meissen_porcelain tradition of combining elements from different objects to create new and unique forms.

With Edifice, I explore this idea through the combination of shapes — bringing together distinct porcelain forms to create a new sculptural language.

Phoenix, the tableware collection, takes a different approach. Here, the rims of 18th-century Meissen plates are manipulated, cut and broken, disrupting their original form and transforming the edges into a new language. What was once a familiar tableware silhouette becomes something unexpected, while retaining a connection to its history.

Both collections explore the same idea: deconstruction as a form of creation taking elements from the past and giving them a new identity.

Still processing Exeter Cathedral. The scale, the light, that vaulted ceiling the longest continuous medieval stone vault in the world. Built from the 12th to 14th centuries, the finest complete Decorated Gothic cathedral in England. I could have just stood there all day.

Also popped into the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery and wow. Founded in 1868, it packs serious punch. Natural history highlights: over 40,000 fossils, mammoth tusks, ichthyosaur skeletons, and Gerald the giraffe, World Cultures: Captain Cook artefacts and a rare Tahitian mourner’s costume. Local history: Spanish Armada armour and a stunning 1769 city model.

So much in one building. A quick visit, but I left with a treasure trove of inspiration . @exetercathedral @rammuseum by @bodo_sperlein

London ➔ Paris ➔ Saint-Émilion ➔ Arcachon & Cap Ferret ➔ London.

Brief stop in Paris, a few nights at a château in Saint-Émilion, then down to the coast. Stayed in an old converted water station in Arcachon, but spent most of the time over in Cap Ferret.
