“Self-Portrait: Conflicting The Balance” • 2021-2025 • b&w gelatin silver print from two overlaid negatives

About:

This work explores internal duality and the dynamics of a non-static balance by splitting a single identity into two fundamental elements. The scene reveals a continuous dialogue between the hidden and the manifested, the material and the metaphysical.

The dark figure embodies a structural, rational, and shadow aspect: its precise horizontal gesture aims at direct exposure, defining reality as it is. The light figure – sensual and weightless – directs its gesture upward, embodying avoidance and usteering the focus toward the abstract and elusive. The facelessness of both figures strips away the personal, transforming the self-portrait into a universal formula for equilibrium, where the tension between opposing forces becomes the sole condition for achieving inner wholeness.

The embodied symbolism acts as a metaphor for the daily psychological state within each individual – the subtle struggle of finding the wholeness. The key lies not in choosing a side, but in listening to both, ultimately mastering the balance of Self.

Это стыд и удовлетворение, когда, только спустя несколько лет, рисуночек трансформировался в достойную фото-работу. И, да, можно было просто отфотошопить и сделать дигитальный принт (это всегда можно быстро сделать), но я уважаю истоковое ремесло фото-искусства, соответственно, предпочитаю живой процесс. NIGREDO, 2021, improvisation movement / ritual, 6 min 11 sec

Nigredo, Latin for “blackness,” is the first stage of the alchemical magnum opus, representing putrefaction, decomposition, and the “dark night of the soul.”

Seeking for light to transform. To awaken the inner light – to enter the pure substance called Albedo… the phase of purification, often referred to as ablutio (the washing away of impurities).

Enter the hidden to activate the shadow work; for the light within to purify.

“Dance as a ritual • a form of transformation.”

Sri Mahakali Puja Yantra represents destruction as transformation: it is the end of illusion, awakening Shakti, the divine feminine.

Blading the air is a symbolic act of breaking the veil of illusion; Kali furiously chops off the heads – letting go of ego… and after all chaos… the purity emerges… lotus opens its pedals… and there you see the essence of your power and beauty.

P.S. if you have an intention to transform (change) from one state to another, dance is one of the ways to do it in the most profound way. Based on a personal case / intention, the elements are collected as symbolic transmitters - objects, clothes, sound, space, time… and you are able to experience a teleportation - a quantum leap - a therapeutic act - a transformation towards the essence.

Грустью разрывает веки;
Омывают сопли вены;
Сердце одиноко плачет.

Увядает духа пламя…

Удушающие слезы,
Разъедают света грёзы.

Я волнуюсь и давлюсь,
Да бы крик прорвал мне грудь.

Может явнет проблеск света?
Ясность посетит меня?
Или буду так же в мраке,
Окислять свои глаза?
Затуманно… невозможно!
Мне печально, слова нет.
Усмирить тревогу сердца…
Бред!
Слушай. Голова язвит, гласит…
Будь ты сильной, умной, страстной и игривой до небес,
Для такой прекрасной дамы и не сдался человек! Нет! Мне нужен… не годится быть одной.
Никому я не желаю быть в оковах тени нравства,
В рабстве дум и дымных туч.
Романтичность есть – бессловно,
Но отсутствие любви...
Если нет ее реальной, по душе и сердцу ладной,
То не жить мне ясным светом в сумасшествий чёртов дней.
