Healing somatically. Helping adults process trauma, manage stress and regulate nervous systems. Step into power& creativity to create your dream life
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
When we feel or express authentic, honest gratitude it can help us regulate our nervous systems,  build capacity and even change our biology. When we are feeling Gratitude, we are not worrying, ruminating or reacting, Focusing on what genuinely is positive grows our ability to notice the positive and therefore builds our capacity. We can grow our bucket.  This only works when you focus on the things that you are genuinely grateful for. I’m not talking about telling ourselves we are grateful for the things that we think we “should “ be grateful for. That doesn’t work because we can’t actually lie to ourselves. Our body knows the truth! Practices that suggest we can “affirmation” our way into feeling good about something  (or someone) we dislike I  honestly think of as toxic positivity or bypassing practices. Telling yourself you love your job when you actually hate it, won’t change your mind it will just disconnect you from yourself and erode self-trust. But maybe you could find one thing you do enjoy about your job, that one nice co-worker or the pretty flowers on the desk, the overtime or the coffee that is provided. Or if nothing about your job can be connected to gratitude, find something all -together different.  If you can start to notice the things you are actually grateful for daily… My morning coffee, my legs that allow me to walk, or my wheelchair that gives me mobility, my pet, that pretty tree I drive past daily, notice it, savor it for a few seconds, how does it feel? Try that a few times a day for a week and see what happens… Little things piled on can grow into a big growing snowball of gratitude. by @bodyascompass

Someone asked me last week , Why I do what I do.
The answer was so immediate and clear it felt important to share.
I do what I do because my life has been so radically and beautifully transformed by this (Somatic) work. My life is now so full of magic, wonder and trust. Where I once swam in fear, anxiety, confusion and dread.  Always waiting for the other shoe to drop.  I now swim in gratitude, peace and love. My default mode is now to trust that everything will be ok, that the Universe has my back.
I find myself touching the sacred in each moment, noticing the beauty all around me and feeling gratitude for trees I see swaying in the wind, the bee that buzzes past, the roof over my head, my beautiful son. That doesn’t mean that hard things don’t happen, of course they do but I now know I will get through with  deeper understanding, compassion and wisdom so it doesn’t knock me off of my perch. This is a sea change. It has been revolutionary for me personally and so I had no choice but to  bring it out into the world. How could I not share this magic? My purpose found me. My trauma and wounding has given me a roadmap to help others and for that I am so grateful. Watching my clients flourish, grow, follow their dreams and find peace is worth all the hard work and working through the difficult lessons x1000. I feel blessed to have found this path and even more blessed to share it. by @bodyascompass

Join us as we gather to collectively hold, share and lay down the grief that burdens us. Grief and loss touch us all, the loss of loved ones, the disbanding of our communities, the destruction of our planet, the never ending war machine, ancestral grief and loneliness to name just a few of the sources of our deep anguish.
In troubled and grief stricken times, the unravelling of our village leaves us at a loss as where to place our sorrow and pain. Women especially are feeling increasingly isolated as we navigate , parenting, working and trying to live. The healing of grief needs to be held, witnessed and laid at the feet of our people. It requires a dance between pain and joy, dark and light, presence and memory.
Come be with us as we hold each other to support, unwind and release into ritual that which Is too heavy to carry alone.
This will be a day or nourishment, connection and rest.
Suggested donation  $40-$80 venmo @bodyascompass to hold your spot. (Nobody turned away for lack of funds, just reach out.)
Also please reach out with any questions.
This workshop will be held at a private home in Altadena.
Tea, Water and snacks provided. by @bodyascompass

A somatic workshop and grief ritual for and by women.

We are a society consumed by grief because we do not have spaces for, and people with whom, to process our losses and heartache. Grief is a rite of passage and learning to metabolize grief is essential work in the path to becoming a wise elder and a whole human. I see grief as a mirror image of the love we hold and our pain will be as deep as our love. However the grief we carry is more that the loss of loved ones, it is the parts of us that have not known love, it is the loss of our human community structures, the devolution of the planet and the increasingly rapid loss of species, the ever growing division in our society, it is having to drop your baby at childcare two weeks after giving birth just so you can cover rent, it is the deep ancestral losses that have been passed down, it is all that we expected to receive but did not get. Processing grief allows us to access more of our life force energy, opens us up to our creativity and frees us from our inner shackles.
I am understanding more and more that we cannot heal in isolation, we need to see and be seen in community with other humans. We are wired to be pack animals and the increasing isolation of our lives is in and of itself a trauma.
We hope you can join us in intentionally building community and co- creating a space of healing, compassion and regulation.

A grief workshop for women.
This past year Grief has been a common theme in my work with clients and when gathering with friends. So much collective grief has been building and growing and so few of us have an outlet or support to move such weighty sorrow. We live in a death phobic society, in troubled and grief stricken times, the unraveling of our village leaves us at a loss as to where to place our grief and pain. The healing of grief cannot happen in a vacuum, it needs to be held, witnessed and laid at the feet of our people. Learning to be with the discomfort of our losses and troubles is essential soul work and a Rite of Passage to become a wise elder. The depth of our grief is equal to the depth of our love, so to close ourselves off to our pain is to close off our heart and not live to our fullest expression of who we are. To live and love fully we must learn little by little to befriend our full selves, dark, light, joy and pain.
This will be an offering I provide regularly throughout the year as I see such need and because I see it as essential soul and human work.

This is a free workshop, but we will be taking a $20 deposit to confirm your space. It will be returned to you on the day of, or at any time, as long as you cancel at least 12 hours before the workshop. This is to ensure people show up. We want to make sure we have space for the people who need to be there. Please venmo $20 to @bodyascompass with your email information to hold your spot. by @bodyascompass

I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. I find they become yet another tool of self- flagellation. In fact let’s stop whipping ourselves and take the word “should” out of our lexicon. I do however believe we can change in any moment and that anything is possible if we let ourselves believe that. Instead may we focus on the power of intention, what do you want more of in your life? Give that attention and love. 2021 and 2022 for me have been wonderful years of building community, which has been life changing, life affirming and in my experience the key. I shall intentionally create more of that, planting and watering seeds. I wish to live more in integrity of who I really am and what I truly believe in, bringing myself gently back into alignment every time I veer off course. I wish to continue to love hard and open myself up to receiving more love. I’ve come to understand that giving out oodles of love while not fully opening yourself to receiving love is a selfish kind of love, a safe love but not a reciprocal love that can gather energy and grow into a world changing love. It’s scary for sure but isn’t everything worthwhile? Calling in Romance and connection of all kinds and abundance for everyone. Calling in the toppling of the titans of greed, knowing there is enough for everyone if we demand it. I intend to orient to the magic of the universe that is available in every moment, let’s open the kaleidoscope of ourselves to that magic and operate from a place of love always. Love to you all today and every day. Happy New Year!! by @bodyascompass

EROS AND SEXUALITY
November 20th 1:30-5pm

Join Emma Gordon, Trauma Resolution Practitioner, and Leigh McDaniel, Womb Witch & Ritualist, as we build alchemical resilience together to expand our capacity to be present in our bodies, our power and our sexuality.

Where does sexuality and the nervous system intersect? In women it lives in every aspect of self, every part of the body, and is or is not brought into being via the nervous system. Everytime you say yes when your body says no, your nervous system finds a way to say no for you. Come learn where your yes and no sit in your body, understand when you override your no and how that feels. Discover how parental emotional attunement or miss-attunement in young childhood directly relates to sexuality in adulthood.

This is no such thing as broken or defective sexuality. There are unsafe partners, there is lack of desire for a partner, there is an inability to communicate what you desire or don’t, there is trauma in the body that confuses safety with threat, and there can be freeze from any combination of things that is your nervous system saying no. Often, all that is needed is to find ways to slow down, to regulate, and follow your body’s cues.

Together, let’s orient to perceived pleasure, use our voices, and find safety in our sexual selves. We will learn sexual anatomy, ways in which our nervous system is activated in sexual situations, practices to notice body sensation and learn to express it, tools to regulate and find safety in our bodies, ways to increase pleasure in the body through pelvic exercises, all while in a safe space with a community of women.

There is an explicit invitation to go as deep as you wish through exercises, or to simply participate by being present.

There will be no sexual touch or nudity.

Tea, water and snacks provided.
Come co-regulate with us!
Cost: $55 to $88 per session sliding scale
Please venmo your chosen price on the scale to @bodyascompass to reserve your spot.

Hi All, come to the second workshop in our series this Sunday!!
Join Emma Gordon, Trauma Resolution Practitioner, and Leigh McDaniel, Womb Witch & Ritualist, as we build alchemical resilience together to expand our capacity to use our voice, speak our yes and no, know our boundaries, and lean into our power and knowing.

We live in a culture where women’s voices have been suppressed, silenced, and ignored. Many of us have lost the ability to listen to the voice of our body, that powerful, wise, intuitive voice that has guided us since the beginning of time. Without this connection to our body and our voice, our yes and our no can be diluted or uncertain. To move intentionally through the world we must have a strong no and an enthusiastic yes. We need to know our boundaries and our desires.

Come work with your nervous system and your voice. Find understanding around how co-regulation works through resonance and vibrational frequency. Become familiar with the profound benefits of humming and toning. Experience how the voice, as part of the social engagement system, can help bring inner safety. Notice the mirroring of the throat and the pelvic space in physical and verbal expression. Learn how your stress response affects your prosody, the rhythm and tone of your voice. Get clear on your limits and edges, and practice speaking them.

Join us in a safe and supportive container of co-regulation and co-creation as we welcome our nervous systems and whole selves in all of their complexity.
There will be lots of practical tips and exercises that you can bring into your daily life and opportunities for rest, relaxation and fun.
Tea, water and snacks provided.
Come co-regulate with us!
Cost: $66 to $88 per session sliding scale
Please venmo your chosen price on the scale to @bodyascompass to reserve your spot.

The first workshop and soundbath in the November series...

ORIENTING TO PLEASURE November 6th 1:30-5pm
Practitioner, and Leigh McDaniel, Womb Witch & Ritualist, for a polyvagal informed workshop for women to build transformative resilience and space for pleasure.

We live in a culture with a heavy negativity bias where for something to be considered important, worthwhile or honorable, great effort, sacrifice and pain must be involved. This is not how our nervous systems work and this is not how healing happens. What if we yielded into our healing? Softened into our power? Melted into safety? To build alchemical resilience for expansion into capacity for connection, pleasure and joy, we need to begin to notice micro moments of pleasure and joy. Come learn nervous system regulation tools in a mutually held container of safety, support and comfort. Let’s rewire our negativity bias into a positivity bias, together. Let’s witness and mirror one another, move our bodies together, and find pleasure in ordinary beauty and community.

We can change the world by how we care for ourselves, touch others and interact with the living world. When we choose consciously, vision imaginatively, and willingly lean into the darkness, courage, and truth necessary to our own healing journey we can make the ordinary, extraordinary. We can create the life we want to be living.

Cost: $66 to $88 per session sliding scale. Please venmo your chosen price in the sliding scale to @bodyascompass to reserve your spot. (if you’d like to attend and cost is an issue, please reach out, we want this work to be accessible.)

Join Emma Gordon, Trauma Resolution Practitioner, and Leigh McDaniel, Womb Witch & Ritualist, for a series of three polyvagal informed workshops for women, to help you find your way back into your body, your community and your soul journey.

Accompany us in co-regulation and co-creation as we welcome our nervous systems and whole selves in all of their complexity. Holding ourselves, working things out alone, is burdensome, exhausting and inhuman. We are biologically wired to be held in community, we need to be mirrored in relationship and our humanness to know who we are, where we fit and where we belong. To sit fully in one’s power, one must find their way to embodiment; this path can be winding, wandering and nonlinear, sometimes scary and often joyful. To walk a few steps of this path, with others on theirs, can be revolutionary for our nervous systems, and sense of safety in this increasingly isolated world.

We reject the cultural focus on building resilience to be able to withstand more and more stress. Let us build alchemical resilience to expand capacity for connection, pleasure and joy, and to soften into true power. We believe this is how we can change the world.

This series of workshops are designed to build upon one another, but we understand you have busy lives and obligations, so you are welcome to attend all of them or any of them separately.
There will be lots of practical tips and exercises that you can bring into your daily life and opportunities for rest, relaxation, ritual and fun. We honor you in all of your messiness, darkness, wisdom and joy. You will be held in a beautiful home and garden in the majestic foothills of Altadena.
Tea, water and snacks provided.
Come co-regulate with us!
Cost: $66 to $88 per session sliding scale - if you’d like to attend and cost is an issue, please reach out, we want this work to be accessible.

Had a wonderful co-regulation workshop this past weekend. Thanks to all that came and held the collective grief in the room. “Being comfortable in your own skin and having tools that help you relax is a really big deal, but learning how to feel safe with others is revolutionary. When your nervous system can co-regulate with other people and you feel safe and playful and relaxed, you can develop a stronger sense of secure attachment and enjoy its profound rewards, no matter what environment you grew up in “ - Diane Poole Heller #nervoussystemregulation #healing #womensupportingwomen by @bodyascompass
