Meet Our Amazing Jury Pt. 1

Andy Schiaffino @bodynegativela is a composer and sound artist known for their analog-driven approach to ambient music and film scoring. A longtime collaborator of the LA-based film collective ONYX Films, Schiaffino has composed original scores for independent short films such as Noxious (2021) and Ingestion (2024). Their work has also been featured in major productions, with tracks from their 2020 album Fragments appearing in HBO’s Search Party, NBC’s Good Girls, and a Vice Essentials web series.

Beyond composition, Schiaffino has worked across nearly every corner of the music industry—including roles at record labels, artist management, sync licensing, venues, and promotions, and additionally, serves as the talent buyer for Heavy Light Festival, the sibling festival to SDUFF.

Schiaffino’s deep-rooted connection to experimental sound extends into radio and curation. They began their journey hosting multiple shows on their college radio station, KKSM, later expanding to guest appearances on influential platforms like NTS and Reform Radio. Their newest radio show, Cloud Music, airs monthly on the esteemed online independent radio station Dublab. by @bodynegativela

the world feels as dark a place than ever right now, but in times like these, one of the few ways we can let the light back in is by basking in the effervescent splendor that is music.

and so with that, i hope that this announcement finds you well.

i will be joining @trentemoeller 's Dreamweavers north american tour next month, and i’ll be playing the following west coast dates:

2/12 – great american music hall, san francisco, ca
2/14 – echoplex, los angeles, ca

to help support those impacted by the los angeles wildfires, i will be donating 100% of proceeds from my 'covers' cassette tapes directly to those in need via @calfund - there will also be a donation jar and a qr code at the merch table if you would prefer to donate that way.

hi friends, i am nearly recovered from my illness and thus will be playing the final date of The Worship Tour in Los Angeles at The Philosophical Research Society on April 5; i hope to see you there. thank you so much for your outpouring of love and support, it fills my veins and i love you x 1,000,000,000 !! despite this tour being absolutely cursed, i feel really happy to have made these memories and met so many of you wonderful kindhearted individuals. see you in LA. 🤍 taken in The Philosophical Research Society by @bodynegativela

i will be embarking on my very first b/n tour with Midwife & Vyva Melinkolya this spring! we'll be playing some nontraditional venues including a hot spring in Colorado and concluding the tour at LA's legendary @philosophical_research_society 💒

following my father's death in late february of this year, i was given the daunting task of clearing out his home and offloading his worldly possessions. one such possession i came across was this vhs tape of my parents' wedding - something quite shocking to discover, as my family was not a sentimental one, and this home video was the first and only of its kind. it took me quite awhile to gain the strength to watch the smiles on my parents' faces during probably their happiest time spent on this mortal coil. with the help of my friend and visual collaborator Owen West, we edited this memory down to fit the the track length of my newest and final single, "sleepy." this track is the closest to my heart, out of any song in the extent of my oeuvre. @mercury_tracer & i reimagined a demo of mine i had initially recorded in my teen years. this was a song i had written for my parents, and in its newest & final form, still stays true to its origin. @vinylwilliams & his father @marktownerwilliams generously supplied the backing audio you hear in the song, borrowed from a vhs tape of a toddler lionel & his dad running around in lionel's childhood backyard. this is a song of a childhood lived and gone. thank you for listening. by @bodynegativela

i made a new album. it is called "everett" and it comes out december 8 via @tracknumberrecords.

I was supposed to head to (@mercury_tracer) Midwife's studio in Las Cruces late last year for an artist residency, aiming to record, produce, and complete this record - until it got cancelled indefinitely due to my dad's health worsening. My father had been battling prostate cancer off and on since i was 13 years old - it had been in remission (or so i thought) for years. In February of 2022, my dad asked me to move back in with him. I spent that next year watching his condition steadily decline, until one day he was unrecognizable. He died in February of 2023. My dad was my last living parent, and that final year I spent with him was spent endlessly ruminating on loss - the loss of my mom, to swine flu in March of 2011; the loss of myself - to drugs, to mental illness, to pain, to memories that crumble and disappear before your eyes. This loss i've come to know is huge and amorphous, irrevocably stuck to my soul like tar. Endings are the only guarantees in this life.

This record is dedicated to my mom and dad. Thank you to Madeline @mercury_tracer, to all of my collaborators, to my label, and to my best friend Megan @meggohendo for helping me see "everett" through, despite all of the times I wanted to give up on it and surrender to my grief.

Streaming everywhere today is a track called "persimmon," which is a meditation on our inner biases which are formed by our traumatic experiences - creating in us an eternal pessimistic optimist. This track features @justinmaranga on guitar & @vinylwilliams on bass & drums. It was co-produced and mixed by @mythic.bitch & mastered by the legendary @_simonscott. I really enjoyed creating this track, and hope you enjoy listening to it.
