I have such a deep love for chamomile, as I know many that work with them also do. Chamomile is often overlooked by the dominant over-culture, for many reasons I believe, one being that it is common and well known, as well as safe, meaning it can be used by babies and the elderly. But I believe the plants that have continued with us and show up in the kitchen cabinets, on the grocery shelves and in mainstream culture as acceptable, have extremely deep and powerful medicine and magic. It is also overlooked, as chamomile medicine is seen as small or gentle, as the dominant culture tells us more and big is better, which is ironic because chamomile is big medicine, that is very counter culture, that teaches us that rest is sacred, rest is a portal, and that we do not have to sacrifice our own well being and protection of self for the sake of productivity. 🌿Mugwort 🌿
An ancient herb, used and revered all over the world for dreaming, protection, rituals and for women’s health, fertility, childbirth, menstrual cycles, and transitions. Mugwort spiritually is known for rebuilding intuition, dreaming, death and rebirth, associated to Artemis, Hecate and the ancient mother goddess.

Mugwort associated with labor, birth and death. In menopause, we are what is transforming, what is being birthed, and the midwives ourselves.

Explore and reflect in community on your own transformation of entering into the second half of life, in a 6 week online course, through plant medicines, somatic and expressive arts.

Annual Albany Craft Fair, this Sunday November 8th, 10-3 at Albany Middle School. 50+ vendors, great place to support local small businesses and artisans getting ready for holidays. (Me included 😊)

I have 3 handmade herbal infused body oils this year, which have been infused in sun and moon over the summer. These are high potency herbal medicines that are applied directly to your body, helping ease muscle and nervous system tension. Herbal body oiling is safe for everyone, (including children and elders) and is a great way to integrate somatic self care practices that help you slow down, unwind and let go. Herbal body oils help support a nervous system that may be stuck in vigilance snd in a sympathetic response. (Know anyone like this?)

They support a depleted, burnt out and fried nervous system (who’s not fried right now 😭)They are deeply nourishing, physically, emotionally and energetically. I use them before going to work, and also at the end of the day. Anytime you may need a little extra layer of support.

🌿 Sacred Ground Herbsl Body Oil 🌿
Organic Olive oil infused with Calamus Root (anchoring), Holy Basil (mind quieting) Mugwort (intuition)🌿
I think of this oil as a bridge helping connect and integrate mind, body and spirit. Deeply grounding, clearing, rooting, protecting, and uplifting. Helping to clear stress and quiet mental chatter, while grounding one deeply into their own body, aligning our intuition with our mind.

🌿Rose & Root Herbal Body Oil🌿
Organic Olive oil infused with Rose (heart connecting), Burdock Root (grounding), and Mugwort (intuition)🌿
This oil also helping to ground and stabilize within our own heart. This oil is grounding and protective, while helping one process deep emotions, supporting grief and moving stagnant and stuck emotions. Deeply nurturing and nourishing, when we feel burnout and depleted.

🌿Restoring Ease Body Oil🌿
Organic Olive Oil infused with Rose, Chamomile. Lavender, Holy Basil🌿
Energetic nervous system reset, a Soothing balm for the heart. Supporting grieving, tired and exhausted hearts and nervous systems. Calming, protective and uplifting to the spirit. #herbalbodycare #herbalbodyoil #herbalist by @bodyrootandsoul

Only a few spaces left, and it’s the last day to sign up! Please join us this Sunday for our seasonal grief tending circle. Link and more information in bio ❤️ #grief #griefcircle #grieftending #griefispraise #tenderhearted by @bodyrootandsoul

This Sunday, all grievers welcome to attend this Grief Tending Circle, a space to gather in community to honor and tend to our own griefs, be it loss and change of identities, grief around unlived dreams, global and systemic grief around genocide and ecocide, chronic illness, death and loss of loved ones… and so on….Grief is everywhere and often shunned and disregarded in our grief phobic society, in this space we welcome grief and slow down to honor and make space to tend to our withered hearts. This will not be a grief process group, but rather grief tending through personal reflection, guided meditation, partner shares, nature based ritual and creative process. Lead by Shannon Knorr and Petra Gojun. Please share with the grievers in your life. ❤️ #grievers #grief #grieftending #honoringourgrief #tendinggrief Artwork by Kimera Wachna by @bodyrootandsoul

Grief Tending Circle at The Alembic in Berkeley, Sunday November 1st, from 10-12, lead by myself and colleague Petra Gojun.

All grievers are welcome.

This is not a grief process group, but rather, a space to hold and make space for our own grief and heart tending.

We will grief tend through our own personal process, somatic exploration, creative process, guided meditation, altar tending, partner shares, all in the shared community space with fellow grievers.

This is a slowed down, uninterrupted and intentional space for you to be with and listen, to connect and give space to that which needs tending to.

Grief work is soul work.

“Grief work is not passive, it implies an ongoing practice of deepening, attending and listening. There is some strange intimacy between grief and aliveness, some sacred exchange between what seems unbearable and what is most exquisitely alive.”

Francis Weller

f you are interested in engaging more with your own grief and grief tending, please check out my next piece. This piece speaks to motherhood as grief, breaking dysfunctional ancestral patterns of silence and denial, while feeling into the relativity and connection that our own grief work offers to ourselves and others. Grief and uncertainty are like the connective tissue that connects us to humans and the more than human world.

Entering into fall, the place between light and dark, and getting more comfortable and familiar in the darkness. Often in grief our protective strategies and personas no longer work or even exist, as grief strips us raw with nothing for our egos or familiar personalities to hide. In grief our own personhood and lives are shattered. How do we put together these pieces that have become fragmented but are not fully broken, but just need to be rearranged, as the world we knew, no longer exists. In grief, normalcy does not exist. Often in grief the only constants are uncertainty and the unknown.

In fall we often welcome change, but what if the change in our lives, ourselves and loved ones, is not the change that we imagined, hoped for our dreamed of? What do we do with the grief of this?

If these are questions you are curious about, please read and share.

Grief does not need to be explained, rationalized, or analyzed. Grief craves to be held, felt, listened to and moved. Grief itself is wild. Grief connects us deeper to nature, the nature that surrounds us and our own inner nature. Wildness doesn’t have to mean, chaotic, cathartic and intense. Roots are wild. Flowers are wild. Clouds are wild. Wild meaning are truest nature, the parts of ourselves that are here from beginning to endless time, and untouched by trauma, yet moved by grief.

A space to honor and tend to grief through somatic work, movement, Dream Tending, art making and creative process, writing and reflexive dialogue, nature and land connection, altar building, praise and beauty medicine and ritual; all in the support of holding our own personal and collective grief. Living in a grief phobic culture, many of us, abandon, suppress, or deny our own sorrow and loss, yet, grief surrounds all of us in this life. Death, loss and change are integral parts of living, yet our culture turns away from grief, denying its own existence. This is a space to slow down and honor our grief with others through the many regenerative practices named above, which can help us metabolize and move through and with our grief. Grief is not something to fix, get rid of, explain or analyze. Grief is physical and often grief changes us. This is a sacred space of ritual and container that is built and held by those who are present. This is not a grief process therapy group, talking through our grief, but rather a grief tending space, focusing on earth based practices, supporting us in moving through our grief and befriending our grief as an ally, as many of us walk with grief, our whole living lives. Grief is a living sacred entity that needs care, expression, and ritual tending in community with others.

This circle will be ongoing and offered seasonally, and is open to all grievers. We welcome those navigating the death of loved ones, shifts of identity, life transitions, chronic illness, aging, ending of relationships or unfulfilled dreams, while also holding space for the continuous heavy grief of our collective reality, from global to climate crisis to systemic violence to the exhausting pressures of living within late stage capitalism. I have been writing more and more offline, and sharing less online on these platforms, as I do not always feel my vulnerable shares and reflections belong in this space. I have started a platform on Beehiiv, if you want to subscribe and join me there.

This is my first piece, specifically about grief and the loss of my brother to mental illness from a neurodivergent and highly sensitive perspective. I hope to continue to write and share about musings and reflections from a highly sensitive person and reflections on life as a therapist, being a bodyworker for twenty plus years and what I have learned and witnessed about healing, grief tending, trauma and trauma recovery, relationships, consciousness and dreaming, being an aging woman and changing careers at the age of 50, life with a sibling with mental illness and at times psychosis, death and loss of identity, mothering, life after cancer and living with chronic illness and more. Please join me and share ❤️

If you are looking for a space to be with and honor grief, slow down and reflect on your own sensitive nature or the loss of our greatest loves, I would love to have you. Link in bio #griefjourney #griefwriting #somatichealing #highlysensitiveperson #neurodivergent by @bodyrootandsoul
