Incredibly happy to be nominated by the Bienal Fotografia do Porto with my ongoing project «It’s Darkest Before The Dawn» to become one of the Futures Photography Talents 2024 @futuresphotography !

«It’s Darkest Before The Dawn» is the project that I started to develop after moving to Portugal. Photography has become a tool for me to express my strong feelings about forced emigration and the war unleashed by my native country, Russia, in Ukraine. Through the work, I reflect on the intense impact of this devastating war, search for my own identity, cope with the loss of home, experience fear for my children, and navigate the process of integrating into a new environment. Observing my children and the world around me - primarily nature, I create metaphorical images infused with subtle, hidden meanings.

About the nomination: Every year, Futures members nominate a group of artists to join the platform. Coming from different parts of the world and with a diverse background, these talents will be part of a year-long program with many opportunities to develop their projects and careers.

By bringing together a wealth of resources and curatorial expertise, each talent selected by the members gains access to an unprecedented network of professionals, markets, and audiences.

Thank you so much for this opportunity and support @ci.cloplataforma , @krisceee ! by @bogachevskaya

A Gaze from the Dark

In my work, light is not only something that reveals. Sometimes it cuts. It becomes a wound, a sharp line across the body — allowing only fragments to appear. by @bogachevskaya

💫Artist talk at Narrativa

⚡️Yesterday, on February 19, I gave an artist talk at Narrativa @_narrativa as part of the Narrativa Fujifilm Award @fujifilmxpt , which supports contemporary photography in Portugal.

I’m very grateful to the jury of the award, to Narrativa, and to everyone who came yesterday to listen to me 🤍.

At the talk, I spoke not only about Skin of the World — the project that became one of the winners of the award, but also about my approach, my artistic practice, and my influences.

Skin of the World is a narrative where the bodily and the planetary are closely connected. Through the family as a microcosm, I explore its connection with the planet creating parallels between bodies, landscapes, and global processes.

🔥Happy to share some fantastic news! My new project Skin of the World received an Honourable Mention at the Premio Narrativa Fujifilm @_narrativa @fujifilmxpt . Project reflects on the fragile connection between the family as a microcosm and the planet as a macrocosm, where the bodily and the earthly mirror each other. It will soon be presented at Narrativa as part of the Premio. I’ll be gradually sharing photographs from the project.

Vou partilhar fotografias do projeto em breve. by @bogachevskaya

#GreifArtistBlog ✍ “This is why a significant part of my project comprises photographs of my children. I create metaphorical images where apparent beauty conceals unsettling elements. The naked form of a child symbolizes innocence and fragility, defenceless against the nightmares of today's world.”

Every week an artist whose single image was published by Der Greif is given a platform in which to blog about contemporary photography.

Ждем вас! by @bogachevskaya
