@martchartproject

Sergi fotoğrafları: @justacks

Sinan Eren Eek’in kaleme aldığı sergi metninden bir kesit: @sinanerenerk

An extract from the exhibition text by Sinan Eren Erk:
@sinanerenerk

The works in the exhibition first draw the viewer in through Boga’s compelling visual language. Moving beyond the concerns of popular culture, this language offers clues to a more inward and personal inquiry into life, one that nevertheless feels deeply familiar to us all.

By bringing together the symbols embedded within each work, the artist presents the viewer with a puzzle waiting to be deciphered. As viewers begin to unravel this familiar yet deeply personal puzzle, they find themselves recalling not only fragments of the artist’s past, but also moments from their own lives. by @bogamust

I’m very excited to share studio photos of these works, presented during Contemporary Istanbul with Martch Art Project, from 23–27 September. @contemporaryistanbul @martchartproject

What Remains. Elsewhere. Now Here.

Three ways of speaking about a place without naming it.

An old tree. A child who cannot look. A tree in bloom.

I think about the distance between these three images — and about the distances we have learned to live with: between countries, generations, memories, bodies. Between the place we come from and the place we are told we belong to.

We live in a time when people are being asked to look away from too many things. From violence. From loss. From the disappearance of freedoms.

But looking is also a form of staying and what we are all trying to understand is ‘how to remain human in the place we are now.’

Bahar Kızgut’a @baharkizgut tüm kalbimle teşekkür ederim.

—————-

This might be the last thing you are looking at is now open. Warm thanks to everyone who joined us.

Opening the exhibition in Istanbul, this autumn, feels complicated. We are living through a time when life, language and freedom can feel increasingly fragile — when power, silence, endurance and survival live inside our bodies.

Perhaps, in the end, all I can say is:

We are still here.

My heartfelt thanks to Bahar Kızgut @baharkizgut
Over the past five months, you gave me not only the support to make these works, but also a space in which these works could be seen, questioned and understood differently.

And to the entire team at Martch Art Project (@serracv @justacks @cumalisezer34 @m.turgayyasar ) and to Sinan Eren Erk @sinanerenerk Thank you for helping me bring ideas — sometimes messy, unfinished and uncertain — into the world. by @bogamust

Based between Adana and London, Mustafa Boğa explores themes rooted in his homeland. Through scenes from the mundane, he explores memory, identity and belonging, while his ties to Adana and the Mediterranean provide texture and symbolism for his practice. "Ours Could Be the Beginning of a Beautiful Fairy Tale Dreamed of for Years”, the artist creates an indefinite performance space through a choreography of rituals–curating over thirty years of family wedding tapes. Documenting the transformation of traditions, the tapes become not only a visual archive but also a space of recollection. As a witness to these moments, the artist himself is an inseparable figure in these very scenes.

Martch Art Project is pleased to present Mustafa Boğa’s solo exhibition, “This Might Be The Last Thing You Are Looking At.”

Mustafa Boğa’s new exhibition, This Might Be The Last Thing You Are Looking At, approaches the notion of the “end”—something we have all inevitably contemplated at some point in our lives—by moving it away from its dark and melancholic associations and placing it alongside the possibility of a new beginning.

The works in the exhibition first draw the viewer in through Boğa’s compelling visual language.

The works’ initial impressions are deliberately misleading; yet, as the viewer becomes immersed in their forms and layers, traces of a life lived against the current gradually begin to emerge. The closer the viewer comes to the artist, the more they begin to untangle, with their own hands, the knots he has left within his works.

The exhibition will open on September 18 at 6 PM at Martch Art Project’s space in Pera, Istanbul.

Returning again and again with the promise of another season, the orange trees insist that not everything has been lost. Like memory itself.

In the UK, after completing, I hung this one in my sister’s garden in the middle of winter, imagining the gardens I grew up in and thinking about the strange ways memory survives.

In Adana, the orange tree is never just a tree. It carries seasons, family histories, and the weight of things passed from one hand to another.

Outside, the world remains fractured by borders, wars, and old tensions that refuse to disappear.

All the while, Everything Is Romantic by Charli XCX played on repeat.

This and other works are currently on display in the Royal Gardens in Venice. Commissioned by Swatch Art Peace Hotel @swatchartpeacehotel , the works are part of the group exhibition Flora Fantastica, presented during the Venice Biennale.
