The Konark Sun Temple, built in the 13th century, was conceived as the colossal chariot of the Sun God with 24 stone wheels that double as precise sundials, calculating time down to the minute via the shadows they cast.

It was one of the first heritage sites I ever visited, and I remember being quite fascinated by the wheels of stone and the architecture.

Did you know? The scale and craftsmanship of Konark went on to inspire even Krishnadevaraya, influencing similar architectural elements at the Vijaya Vittala Temple.

On #WorldHeritageDay, celebrating a legacy that continues to inspire.

Rameshwaram : Where land meets legend.

Rameshwaram is not just a coastal town—it’s a canvas of sacred geometry, ancient corridors, and salt-kissed wind. The Ramanathaswamy Temple holds the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India, with over a thousand intricately carved pillars stretching endlessly in symmetry - it is also one of India’s sacred Chaar Dham sites and home to one of the 12 revered Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.

And to get to the temple, one has to cross the the iconic Pamban Bridge—India’s first sea bridge—suspended above turquoise waters, connecting the island to the rest of Tamil Nadu.

For those who chase stories in stillness, Rameshwaram whispers a thousand.

Elgin Fairlawn is one of the oldest hotels of Calcutta which retains the colonial-era vibe even today. It is housed in a 1783 building and has seen several celebrity guests over the years. One of them is the Padma Bhushan awardee Shashi Kapoor who was a regular guest here. He and his wife, Jennifer Kendal, are said to have spent their honeymoon in this very hotel in 1958. As a tribute to the late actor, one of the rooms (room 17 or the 'Shashi Kapoor room') has been redecorated and renovated to cherish the memory of Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal.

Behind the making of Ma Lokkhi at Potuapara, Kolkata. I always wanted to explore this place and document the process of idol making here - every delicate stroke, every ornament and every intricate detail. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed.

Raat pohalei Lokkhi Pujo :)

Perhaps the hardest part of Pujo is acknowledging that Ma’s presence is borrowed time..

Captured these pictures on Dashami moments before her homeward journey: once in all her resplendent glory, and once in the fleeting reflection of the brass lamp.

Perhaps that’s why the heart feels heavier on Dashami - knowing that even the most beautiful moments must pass.

Asche Bochor Abar Hobe. ❤️✨ by @bohemiika

For the first time I saw Durga Pujo at the Indian Museum draped in gold, framed in red, and steeped in Bengal’s artistic Kantha heritage.

Devi Durga: Śakti, Mātri, Karuṇā is an installation by She Kantha that brings together devotion, traditional craftsmanship and the enduring cultural legacy of Bengal.

Crafted by Kumartuli artisans, the traditional sabeki Durga idol is adorned with exquisite gold jewellery, drawing inspiration from the intricate designs of the 18th and 19th centuries. I was particularly floored by the nine tier necklace adorned by the goddess depicting the nine forms of Ma Durga.

Within the walls of one of India’s oldest museums, this is a celebration of Shakti, craftsmanship and the many hands that keep Bengal’s cultural memory alive. Highly recommend that you visit this!

She shimmered like a prayer I couldn’t quite put into words. Somewhere between a thousand lights and a thousand dreams.
Subho Saptami! 🙏✨

Of old Calcutta, bonedi Baris, and traditions that still feel like home.

📍From the quaint alleys of College Street ;)

Thanks to @ig_calcutta, @deckle_edge, @shuknoo_lonka , @saikat_gupta for this Bonedi Bari walk and the beautiful houses that you took us to. Great start to Pujo indeed. 💙 by @bohemiika

For every probashi Bengali, there is a little piece of home that never quite leaves. 💙

For four years, Durga Puja meant finding home in another city of IT and tech parks in the dhaak, the dhunuchi, the familiar faces, and the little pockets of Bengal we build wherever life takes us.

And then, finally, Kolkata.

Back to the city where Pujo feels less like a festival and more like a feeling. Where the streets hold memories, the air carries anticipation, and every familiar corner reminds you why you keep coming back.

This year, I returned to Kolkata for Durga Puja after four long years. And somewhere between the crowds, the lights, and the sound of the dhaak, I found a little piece of myself waiting here.

For all of us probashi Bengalis, perhaps homecoming isn’t just about returning to a city. It’s about returning to a feeling.

Shubho Sharodiya. কলকাতা, আমি ফিরে এসেছি। 💙

Agomoni, Bengaluru. 💙

Every autumn, in the month of Ashwin, Bengalis all around the world begin to stir with the anticipation of Maa Durga’s homecoming. Preparations for Durga Pujo are in full swing everywhere. In Bengaluru, there are about 150+ Durga Pujo pandals and the number seems to be growing every year.

Across Bengaluru, artisans from Kolkata set up humble workshops to create Durga idols, carrying generations of craft and a little piece of home into another city. Stepping into one of their places feels no less than visiting Kumortuli. Every year I try to visit these places to feel a sense of homecoming and happiness. And these artisans are the sweetest people ever!

I never imagined I’d get to witness and photograph chokkhu daan — the sacred ritual of painting Maa Durga’s eyes — here in Bengaluru. But somehow, Ma made it possible. Heart is full. 💙

Perhaps that’s the magic of Agomoni: home has a way of finding us, even when we’re far away. :)

A little Kumortuli in Bengaluru. A little Bengal, away from home. by @bohemiika

Inside a Bonedi Bari.

There’s something about stepping inside Kolkata’s old Bonedi Baris that makes you look up, look closer, and slow down.

Beyond the grand entrances and Durga Puja celebrations lies another story which is told through thakur dalans, courtyards, arches, stained glass windows, old doors and fading details.

A little glimpse of old Calcutta, through these beautiful heritage houses and the things I noticed along the way.

Let me know your thoughts and if you can identify any Bari here :) by @bohemiika

It’s that time of the year again. ✨

Of festivities, love, homecoming, prayers, celebrations, shiuli fuler gondho, and a slight nip in the air to bring it all together.

There’s a certain magic to Durga Pujo that I find difficult to put into words: perhaps it’s the anticipation of the first dhaak, the smell of shiuli in the morning, old houses dressed up for the occasion, or simply the sense of comfort in familiar places.

Loving all the Durga Pujo pictures being shared by my fellow photographer friends so much so they’ve officially forced me to dig into my own archives. :)

So, here’s a little throwback from my archives to welcome October. 🌸💙✨ by @bohemiika
