We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Dr. Lynn Russell, the founding dean of Boise State’s College of Engineering.

Dean Russell led our college through its earliest years, guiding it through its first national accreditation and helping bring buildings like the Harry W. Morrison Civil Engineering Building, the Micron Engineering Center, the Ruch Engineering Building and the Idaho Microfabrication Laboratory to life. Decades later, these are still the spaces where you learn, build and research every day.

Before @boisestateuniversity, Dean Russell worked as a NASA scientist on the Apollo program, the mission that put the first man on the moon. From there to leading our college, his career was a reminder of what engineers can accomplish.

𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗖 | 𝗠𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀

MERC is home to several initiatives advancing microelectronics and semiconductor education, research, and innovation. One of our flagship programs, Semiconductor for All (S4A), is funded by an Idaho Workforce Development Council grant and has helped us reach more than 27,000 students across Idaho!

Through hands-on lessons, school visits, camps, community programs, and even the state fair, our educational outreach team is bringing semiconductor education to students and teachers statewide and helping build the foundation for Idaho’s future semiconductor workforce.

Earlier this year, we established the Casey Cline CMA Fellowship to honor the legacy of Professor Casey Cline who helped build @cma_boisestate into the most-awarded AGC student chapter in the country.

@bsu_cm has named BJ Albertson as its inaugural Casey Cline CMA Fellow, a new endowed role honoring Cline's nearly 20-year legacy of building the CMA student chapter. The fellowship, established through a gift from the Construction Management Alumni Chapter, ensures CMA's community-based, industry-connected projects continue for the next generation of student leaders.

Albertson is already putting that support to work, guiding student-elected leadership through community builds like a new training center deck for the @bbsefski_board_bike, and deepening the alumni and industry pipeline that has long been central to CMA's success.

A quarter century later, that mission has been realized through the efforts of our students, faculty, alumni, and the industry and government partners who have invested in us every step of the way.

On Friday, Oct. 9, Boise State officially opened the ESI Construction Management Building during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on campus, marking a transformative milestone for the university’s College of Engineering and for Idaho’s construction industry.

The approximately 13,000 square-foot facility was made possible entirely through the generosity of more than 200 donors, including industry partners, alumni, foundations and supporters, as well as lead naming-rights supporter Engineered Structures, Inc. (ESI).
