(And the hardest secret to keep)

So excited to bring Kiki & Malakai's story to the big screen with @workingtitlefilms ! My debut film. And I am writing too!! I am working HARD in the kitchen! It is quite literally a dream come true to work with the best to ever do it in the romcom biz and they are such wonderful producing partners. And everyone who has been asking me about adaptation for years- I have been keeping this a secret for years (with some heavyyyvy hints at a few talks/panels). Very hard for a yapper like me! But honestly it has been sweet having this treasure for myself for a little while so I could savour how delicious it is. So appreciative of this journey. Thanking God always!!

You know it's serious when there's a screenshot on the grid. SWEET HEAT was selected as one of @time 's must read books of the year!!🥹🍬🔥 Allow me to be earnest lol I know people don't do/read long captions these days but I am old fashioned ok!!

I have a tendency to work through everything and not take a moment to sit with things but I did with this and I started to cry. I love this book, this story, the journey I had with it SO much. It was hard and gnarly at times and it forced me to reaffirm my purpose and fall in love with writing again. I am so grateful to God that I get to tell my little-big love stories and to connect with people through them and I do not take the chance I have to live my literal little-girl dreams for granted at all. This is what I know how to do, all I want to do. Sharing and exploring and expressing and dissecting this world, this life, through the many forms of love. And I do it with my very Yoruba name and my very black characters! And while I am here thank you to all my readers who send me messages every day it means the whole world and you breathe more life to my work❤️

I would say "pinch me" but my dreams have always had the same solidity as reality, I never bother to distinguish, I find it limiting. I am however grateful, over the moon, humbled by this @nytimes (??! BABY ME USED TO PRAY FOR TIMES LIKE THESE) review. God has always seen my dreams and done me one better. I am so grateful for my words and my story and my mission to be really seen and understood. Thank you @cvbell for this thorough and careful understanding. I read this trembling!! H&S has been part of my world for years and I am so glad that it is being welcomed. Whew. 3 days and we go. 🍯🌶❤️‍🔥 it's time for H&S to fulfill its purpose beyond me. She was made to be shared!!! Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind, but I put to Shakespeare that it sure is nice when the eyes are fed! I had such a fab night at the opening of A Midsummer's Night Dream at @regentsparkoat ! Such a vibrant cast bringing one of my favourite plays to life. Loved this interpretation of an OG romcom! On till the 18th July go see it!! 🎭❤️

We chatted, giggled, sipped margs, spilled tea, talked MBJ lore and pinned the 🍆 on the Hudson. Now to procure a lifesized Malakai cut out for those who requested it lol.
