In my latest Substack newsletter, I deconstruct the multi-billion Naira warfare threatening the foundations of Dapper Group.

The explosive schism between the label and its flagship vanguard—Shallipopi, Seyi Vibez, and T.I Blaze, is far more than a transient social media spectacle. It is a profound structural systemic failure. And It exposes the critical friction point where hyper-local, viral genius is violently upstreamed into non-transparent corporate distribution networks.

From alleged signature forgeries to the ₦1.2B accounting black hole, this piece dissects the fragile math of street-pop and the predatory asymmetry holding modern Afrobeats creators hostage.

Nigerians had no problem turning Netflix hit show 'The Polygamist' into one of the continent's biggest conversation starters. So why has Tyla become the face of South Africa's xenophobia?

In my latest Substack column, I examine the contradiction at the heart of the #BoycottTyla campaign and ask whether our solidarity is driven by principle or applied selectively.

Conquered my giant in the form of public speaking today, and boy oh boy did it feel Good!
In my four years of actively doing Culture journalism, I have admired confident voices in my field who articulated their thoughts in front of a crowd. For the longest, I thought it a skill far out of my physiological reach. So I stuck to my pen, solely.

Thankfully, @theallyoceans_ begged to differ. When she reached out on LinkedIn, poaching the idea of moderating a panel session for her creative summit @thenexifysummit , I was scared asf, and was opting for flight over fight- as I usually do when my brain is tested by a challenge.

However, Alice's strong belief in my potential spawned me to take up the challenge of speaking to a live audience for the first time, and I am glad I did fr!

Now, I have unlocked a new ability, and can't wait to see how this ability is used for the greater good of service.

Special shout out @theallyoceans_ and her @creaticohq team. by @bomithesinger

This is what I opine, that Tyla’s 'Push 2 Start' Grammy win is deserved. Her success is earned. Yet the ongoing debate around the Grammys' Best African Music Performance category reveals something deeper than heated tabloid discourse or national bias.

It exposes how Western institutions often celebrate African artists through categories that prioritize origin over sound, compressing a continent of 54 countries and countless sonic traditions into a single, administratively convenient label. Can we blame them?

My latest piece on Substack attempts at deconstructing the satire behind the Best African Music Category. A must read( If I do say so myself).

Owning your work is only the beginning.

Knowing how it earns, travels, and stays protected is the real game.
Creative Rights, Revenue & Distribution is one of the key sessions at NEXIFY Summit 2026.

Moderated by:
@bomithesinger — Cultural Journalist

Panelists:
• @kinsmaine — IP Lawyer
• @herexcellencyisi — Founder, All African Indie Film Festival
• @iamdanzor — Digital Strategist

This conversation breaks down how creatives can:
– Protect their rights
– Understand how your revenue can work for you
– Distribute work without losing control

If you create, publish, or distribute anything — this session matters.

In my latest piece for @notesphere, I argue that Tems has outpaced the old metrics for OGs, proving that time served is no longer the ultimate measure of greatness; impact is.

This is not a new conversation.

But this is my way of asking the question, loudly, deliberately, and with cultural stakes in full view.

African artists are headlining some of the world’s biggest festivals—from Afro Nation Portugal to Dreamville in North Carolina. Davido, Tems, Amaarae, Uncle Waffles, DBN Gogo… their names are lighting up global stages.

But back home? We’re still asking if the lights will stay on long enough for a proper soundcheck.

In my latest OP-ED for @official.aca1 , I revisit a familiar tension: the glaring gap between African music’s global dominance and our lack of homegrown festival infrastructure.

It’s not an unfamiliar story. But I tell it through a lens of possibility, groupthink, and the urgent need for systems—not just stages.

Because if the rhythm was born here, the world-class experience should be lived here.

Let’s build better. Let’s bring it back home. by @bomithesinger

I’ve been a fan of @lilbieber for over a decade, not just of the music, but of the evolution. The stumbles, the reinventions, the artful pivots. And with Swag, he’s done it again.

The iconic singer has not only delivered a sonically adventurous record, but quietly taught a masterclass on what a modern music rollout can look like.

And In this new piece for @theupperent , I unpack “5 Things African Music Stars Should Learn from Justin Bieber’s Swag Rollout.”

From radical collaboration to unfiltered fan connection, from creative vulnerability to sonic experimentation, Swag is everything many African artists are told not to be. And yet, it works, deeply.

This isn’t fan service. It’s a cultural observation. One that asks: what if African music stars started breaking the formulas they’re praised for?
