New world record: fastest (N-S) crossing of the United States - 8d:5h:56m:17s
Although no distinction is made by Guinness, this ride was unsupported.

I have conflicting thoughts on this effort. It seems unreasonable to be dissatisfied at breaking the record by 3 days with a 260mile/day average after just 2 1/2 months of sporadic training, but through a combination of bad luck and poor preparation on my part, I left a lot of time on the road and fell short of the goals I set for myself. It feels strange to have my name attached to a world record time that I’m not particularly proud of.

In addition to the snapped shifter cable that delayed me on the home stretch, the boa on my right cleat broke on day 3, which meant I couldn’t tighten the shoe and hence developed a painful case of Achilles tendinitis which almost forced me to abandon this ride. The silver lining of all this complaining is that I still haven’t even come close to reaching my full potential. When my Achilles heals up I’ll be back hungrier than ever and can’t wait for the day when all the pieces fall into place.

A huge thanks to all the people who made this ride possible and the continued support of all my amazing sponsors!

Stay tuned for a daily reels series capturing my ride!

Never stop dreaming
Pan-American World Record: 75d, 17hr, 55min. South America (N-S) World Record: 35d, 22hr, 40min
When I left Alaska 75 days ago I had nothing but a dream and my bike. It turns out that is all I needed. While my effort may have been a solo self-supported attempt, this would not have been possible without the ongoing support of my family, friends, and sponsors. Thank you to everyone who made this journey possible and helped me get to where I am today.
While my Pan-Am trip may have drawn to a close, our fight for environmental protection and equitable energy is only just beginning. Now, more than ever before, we all have an individual responsibility to pick up the mantle of environmental stewardship. My fundraiser for the @honnoldfoundation is still live. I would be greatly appreciative if you could donate or share at the link in my bio. Together we have the power to turn my trip into something bigger than biking. taken in Ushuaia, Argentina by @bond_almand

Who is Bond Almand? He is the 20-year-old who went to the brink mentally during his 75 days on the road, but he never gave up.

13,595 miles later, the Dartmouth College junior smashed the Pan Am World Record. Almand reflects initially on his journey but he’s not yet ready to answer the question of what exactly about him has changed. “It’s a really amazing question that I just can’t answer right now because I don’t know the answer myself. But it’s a question I really want to return to,” Almand said.

Any time he achieves a goal, the next has to be bigger, he says.

A belated Arkansas High Country Race report. I knew my Achilles wasn’t fully healed so it was no surprise when I decided to throw in the towel at mile 180. High Country is over 1,000 miles long, so as soon as my Achilles started to hurt I pulled the plug because there was no point in riding on when the writing was on the wall. Still, I had lots of fun in Arkansas! The trails are a blast and the gravel is endless. A huge thanks to @lauracameronking and High Country winner @iamtedking for taking care of me!

Many thanks to @mixed.soil.media for the great photos

Fast lines, dialled setup. 💨

@bond_almand putting the @profile_design DRV/AEROa bars to work. Built for a more aerodynamic position without sacrificing control or comfort.

Made to ride fast. ⚡️

1,000 miles on tap tomorrow (and the next day, and the next, and the next, and probably the next). I’m lining up for Arkansas High Country Race, which should be an absolute blast. The gravel can get pretty chunky in Arkansas, so I’m riding my favorite bike of all time, the @trekbikes CheckOUT. This thing rips anywhere and everywhere. I have pretty low expectations for this race, tbh. My Achilles is probably still healing, but I’m not really sure cause I’ve only ridden a couple of times since I got injured in Vermont two weeks ago. Oh well. It’s a pleasure to be in Arkansas and it’ll be fun to ride, whether I make it 50 miles or 1,000. Maybe you can bet on polymarket or some bs about how many miles I will make it before my achilles explodes, then you can follow my progress, or lack thereof, at the live tracking. Link in bio

If you couldn’t tell, some of these photos were taken in Boston, not Arkansas. I’ve been bouncing around the US and Canada visiting friends and vibing since finishing my NFL project. Kind of living a strange vagabond life right now and I love it. I think I’m going to hitchhike out to Colorado after this race. That would be awesome. I should probably start posting more, but it’s been nice not posting all the time after being on the content grind this summer. Idk. I’m just having fun out here

Vermont Super 8 race report: Unfortunately a super mixed bag here. I was supposed to race the entire 660 mile Super 8, but my Achilles flared up and I had to call it quits after completing the 384 mile South Lobe. The silver lining is that I took the South Lobe FKT by over 4 hours with a time of 1d:11h:59m. It turns out 11,000 miles is good base training and I was riding so incredibly well. When I finished after 36 hours of riding I still felt fresh and incredibly strong—so fresh that it was uncanny. My body felt unbelievably good, other than my Achilles. My fitness is on another level right now. I just need to sort out my Achilles. I’m supposed to race Arkansas High Country on October 3rd. Hopefully I can get healed up by then.
I’m assuming I got injured because the fit and feel of the CheckOUT bike I was riding is a lot different than the Madone road bike I’ve been on all summer. Some small tweaks to make here and there, as well as more time on the CheckOUT, and hopefully we can make something special happen in Arkansas. I’m not entirely sure my Achilles will cooperate for AHCR, but I’m going to do everything I can to get to the start line in 13 days. I’ll be off the bike for a couple of days then I’ll ease back into riding.
It’s always a pleasure to ride in Vermont, especially this time of year. A huge thank you to the race organizers for such an amazing race and a truly masochistic course. There were some pretty wicked technical and steep walking sections out there. I’ll be back for the whole Super 8! taken in Montpelier, Vermont by @bond_almand

This morning I started the Vermont Super 8 bikepacking race! I’m currently at mile 160 of 660. You can follow my progress at the link in my bio. I’ve had a hectic week following the completion of my NFL ride so I never did a rig check, but I’m riding the @trekbikes CheckOUT and it’s awesome. This race has been brutal so far and it’s just getting started🙃 by @bond_almand

@bond_almand rode more than 11,000 miles to connect every @nfl stadium by Madone and deliver a football for the season opener in Seattle.

One question: Why??

Congratulations to a one-of-a-kind rider, who kept us entertained and in awe with his near-daily updates throughout an incredible journey battling rain, scorching heat, ripping traffic, and more.

If you missed the journey, you can give Bond a follow and catch up on all of his vlogs — trust us, they're well worth the time. Or hit the link in bio 🔗 to read our story about the ride, featuring highlights such as Bond's recipe for Tennessee Rocket Fuel.

Bond showed how small joys help us persevere and accomplish monumental things. We'll be thinking about this ride for a long time.
