Do you know how to ask in Japanese if someone wants something from you?

In Skyrim, almost every NPC has the generic line:

ใ€Œไฝ•ใ‹็”จใ‹๏ผŸใ€
(Need something?)

You hear this when you've already exhausted all of their unique dialogue and keep talking to them.

If you've played Skyrim long enough, you've probably noticed it too.

Another natural expression is:

ใ€Œไฝ•ใฎ็”จใ‹ใ‚™ใ‚ใ‚‹ใ‚“ใŸใ‚™๏ผŸใ€
(What do you want with me? / What business do you have with me?)

The key word here is ใ€Œ็”จ๏ผˆใ‚ˆใ†๏ผ‰ใ€, which means "business," "errand," or "something someone wants from you."

It's one of those expressions that textbooks don't always emphasize, but you'll hear it all the time in games, anime, and real Japanese conversations. ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต๐ŸŽฎ

๏ฝžไปฅๆฅ (ใ„ใ‚‰ใ„) means "since".

Unlike ใ‹ใ‚‰, which simply marks a starting point, ไปฅๆฅ emphasizes that something has continued from that point up until the present.

In Hrongar's line:

Hrongar is essentially saying:

"This is the first time something like this has happened since Tiber Septim himself was summoned."

The phrase ๅฌๅ–šใ•ใ‚Œใฆไปฅๆฅ ("since he was summoned") implies that no similar event has occurred during the entire period from that event until now.

๏ฝžใŸใฒใ‚™ใซ means "every time." It's used when the same thing happens whenever something else happens.

When I first learn japanese. I always though of "No" particle as a possesive marker. But turns out, ใฎ is simply used to connects 2 nouns. The meaning changes depending on the noun it connects

ใจใซใ‹ใ (tonikaku) is often translated as "anyway," "in any case," or "at any rate," but its core meaning is more specific. It is used when you put other things aside and focus on the point that matters or needs to be addressed. For example: ใจใซใ‹ใ่กŒใ“ใ†ใ€‚ "Let's just go." The idea is: whatever else is going on, let's focus on going first. In Lokir's line: ใจใซใ‹ใใ€็ฅžๆง˜ใ€ใŠๅŠฉใ‘ใˆ๏ผ The ใจใซใ‹ใ adds the feeling of "put everything else aside, this is what matters now." So a natural English rendering would be something like: "Gods, just help me!" This is why the English subtitle doesn't need to translate ใจใซใ‹ใ as a separate word. It can also be used to emphasize a point, not just an action. For example: ใจใซใ‹ใใ‚ใชใŸใฎใ‚ˆใ†ใซ็œผ้กใฎไผผๅˆใ†ไบบใ‹ใ‚™ๆญปใ‚“ใฆใ‚™ใฏใ„ใ‘ใชใ„ใ€‚ A natural rendering would be: "Whatever else may be true, someone like you who looks good in glasses mustn't die." Here, the speaker is putting other considerations aside and emphasizing the point they want to make. Now, how is ใจใซใ‹ใ different from ใจใ‚Šใ‚ใˆใ™ใ‚™? They can sometimes sound similar in English, but the focus is different. ใจใซใ‹ใ is about putting other things aside and focusing on what matters. ใจใ‚Šใ‚ใˆใ™ใ‚™ is about doing something for now or as a first step, while leaving what comes next for later. Compare: ใจใซใ‹ใ่กŒใ“ใ†ใ€‚ "Let's just go." The focus is: "Whatever else is going on, let's go." ใจใ‚Šใ‚ใˆใ™ใ‚™่กŒใ“ใ†ใ€‚ "Let's go for now." The focus is: "Let's go for now, and we'll figure out the rest later." So, roughly: ใจใซใ‹ใ = "anyway / just / the important thing is..." ใจใ‚Šใ‚ใˆใ™ใ‚™ = "for now / for the time being / as a first step." They can overlap in some contexts, but they are not interchangeable.

We hear ็ต‚ใ‚ใ‚‹ (owaru) often in anime:
ใ€Œ็ต‚ใ‚ใ‚ŠใŸใ‚™๏ผใ€
It means โ€œto endโ€ or โ€œto be over,โ€ so itโ€™s obviously an intransitive verb.
But in todayโ€™s scene, Tullius says ใ€Œ็ต‚ใ‚ใ‚‰ใ›ใ‚ˆใ†๏ผใ€.
This is the volitional form of the causative form of ็ต‚ใ‚ใ‚‹, meaning โ€œLetโ€™s finish it.โ€
So, to make an intransitive verb like ็ต‚ใ‚ใ‚‹ express the idea of making something end, you first turn it into its causative form:
็ต‚ใ‚ใ‚‹ โ†’ ็ต‚ใ‚ใ‚‰ใ›ใ‚‹
โ€œto endโ€ โ†’ โ€œto make something end / to finish somethingโ€
Then, you change that into the volitional form:
็ต‚ใ‚ใ‚‰ใ›ใ‚‹ โ†’ ็ต‚ใ‚ใ‚‰ใ›ใ‚ˆใ†
โ€œLetโ€™s finish it.โ€
For example, with ้–‹ใ and ้–‹ใ‘ใ‚‹:
ใƒˆใ‚™ใ‚ขใ‹ใ‚™้–‹ใ = The door opens / is open.
ใƒˆใ‚™ใ‚ขใ‚’้–‹ใ‘ใ‚‹ = Open the door.
ใƒˆใ‚™ใ‚ขใ‚’้–‹ใ‘ใ‚ˆใ†๏ผ = Letโ€™s open the door!

My grandma is getting transfered to bigger Hospital and still needs attention. So I can't get my hands on my PC to get proper Skyrim's clip. But luckily things I learned on today's line in skyrim is simply about ใ“ใ‚Œใฏ
Which can also be used to call out someone, even in respectful ways... fantasy or collosal realm Japanese used this so I think the Japanese Skyrim team really put their heart in dubbing this game ๐Ÿฅฐ

The small ใƒƒ in Japanese is called a ไฟƒ้Ÿณ๏ผˆใใใŠใ‚“๏ผ‰or sokuon. It represents a geminate consonant, meaning the following consonant is held for a slightly longer duration.

For example: ใƒฌใƒƒใƒˆใ‚™ = reddo ใ‚ขใƒชใ‚ตใƒƒใƒˆ = arisatto ใƒญใƒชใ‚ฏใ‚นใƒ†ใƒƒใƒˆใ‚™ = rorikusuteddo

In ใƒญใƒชใ‚ฏใ‚นใƒ†ใƒƒใƒˆใ‚™, the ใƒƒ comes before ใƒˆใ‚™, giving us ใƒ†ใƒƒใƒปใƒˆใ‚™ rather than ใƒ†ใƒปใƒˆใ‚™.

The ใƒƒ itself is not pronounced as โ€œtsu.โ€ Instead, it creates a brief hold before the following consonant.

Shoutout to @thisisriodesu & @miku_real_japanese
I take their respected content for example.

There are more interesting detail I found
The subtitle says:
"home."
But Japanese actually says:
ๆ•…้ƒท not ๅฎถ.
ๆ•…้ƒท (furusato) doesn't simply mean a house or even home.
It refers to your hometown, your homeland, or the place you grew up.
The English subtitle chooses "home" because it preserves the emotional feeling, even though the words aren't exactly the same.
another interesting detail is ๆ€ใ† = "to think."
But Ralof doesn't use this kanji ๆ€ใ†.
He uses ๆƒณใ†.
They have the same pronunciation, but not always the same nuance.
ๆƒณใ† is often chosen when emotions are involved.
You're not just thinking about something.
You're remembering it, longing for it, or keeping it close to your heart.
So in this line, Ralof isn't simply saying that a Nord thinks about home before death.
He's saying that, in their final moments, home is what remains in a Nord's heart.

There's another reason.

The question ends with the particle ใ‚’.

That's because the verb is omitted.

For example, it could have been:

ใจใ‚™ใ†ใ—ใฆใใ‚“ใชไบ‹ใ‚’่žใใฎ๏ผŸ
"Why would you ask something like that?"

We don't know exactly which verb was omitted.

Japanese often leaves out words that are obvious from the context.

This is called ellipsis.
