The Warp & The Weft exhibition at Bond Street Gallery, Brighton - at the top of the alley opposite Costa Coffee - featuring my Mars: The Bringer of War amongst other excellent pieces, is on for a few more days before closing this weekend Catch 'em while they're still there #thewarpandtheweft #bondstreetgallery #brightonart by @bondstreetgallery
Introducing the work of Carola van Dyke at Bond Street Gallery: What Remains (Sow thistle) 2D floating stitch embroidery 72 × 100 cm £3,200 Carola van Dyke is a contemporary fibre artist who uses thread and embroidery to explore the natural world. Her work draws on close observation of flowers, plants and insects, as well as the tradition of Dutch still-life painting. Trogonoptera Embroidered vessel 50 × 21 × 20 cm £3,600 Stand not included In Trogonoptera, three embroidered butterfly wing-patterned forms come together to make a vessel. Thousands of floating stitches create a fragile yet resilient surface, where control and unpredictability coexist. Repetition gives the work rhythm and continuity, while the stitches remain open, loose and responsive. The three separate wings each contribute to the strength, balance and identity of the whole. The work explores delicacy and strength, the individual and the collective, structure and spontaneity. It invites us to consider how separate elements can depend upon and strengthen one another, and how something fragile can become more resilient through connection. Morpho Minis £1,900 Stand not included Her work brings beauty and fragility together. Individual stitches build into detailed forms, while threads float away from the surface or are deliberately left loose and disrupted. What appears to be preserved can also seem to be coming apart. Helleborus Embroidered flower £575 Stand NFS Van Dyke’s work is built from individual threads, but it also considers the relationships between growth and decay, permanence and change, nature and our attempts to preserve it. The physical process of making becomes part of that conversation. Interested in Carola’s work? Bespoke payment plans are available on selected works. We’d be happy to discuss the options with you. Private viewings are available on request, including out-of-hours appointments. For more information, speak to a member of the gallery team, DM @bondstreetgallery or email info@sarahshaw.co.uk. The Warp & The Weft runs until 8th November Tues – Thurs: 11 to 6 Sat & Sun: 12 – 6 Mon & Fri: CLOSED Bond Street Gallery, 4 Bond Street Cottages, Brighton BN1 1RP by @bondstreetgallery

The Warp and the Weft is an exhibition of Sussex based artists and makers running from the 17th of October to the 7th of November. I’m thrilled to be part of this wonderful show. The Bond Street Gallery has put on an incredible exhibition of makers and creators from the local area. The show has been beautifully curated hung and presented by the Bond Street team. Bringing together a diverse group of makers and creators from craft, painting, photography, sculpture, installation as well as performing arts. The opening night was a wonderful evening and a chance to meet fellow makers as well as indulge in glasses of wine and a wonderful performance of sound and drawing. - The days are made on a loom whereof the warp and woof are past and future time. They are majestically dressed, as if every god brought a thread to the skyey web’ Ralph Waldo Emerson From Works and Days - This the last week of the show and your chance to pop in and see a selection of wonderful creatives curated in this beautiful space. - #art #bondstreetgallery #eastsussex #contemporaryart #danhipkin by @bondstreetgallery

Grace Wilmshurst Overground Oil on canvas 23 × 28 cm £300 Grace Wilmshurst’s paintings explore our relationship with the natural world and how we perceive animals. In Overground, a house holds still while a dog runs past, bringing together memory, place and movement. Wilmshurst connects this visible scene with the intricate world of fungus beneath the surface, suggesting an unseen structure that holds things in place. The painting was inspired by Wilding, the book about the Knepp estate, and was shortlisted for the 2025 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. In this work, found images, paint and other media create a layered dialogue. The title reflects his interest in the fabric of the world and the consequences of our actions, particularly for the environment and society. Pavey also considers the creative tension of knowing when to start and stop, and the possibility that art can make a difference. 3 under £300 from The Warp and The Weft at Bond Street Gallery! Discover three highly affordable works from The Warp & The Weft by Bob Dixon, Julian Warrender and Beccy Bloomfield, each priced under £300. Swipe left to view. Bob Dixon @bobdixonartist Being an artist is a bit like being a tramp Monoprint 18 × 22 cm £100 Bob Dixon’s work is rooted in paying attention to the world around him. His drawings capture places and the traces of people moving through them, from railway platforms and city streets to harbours and markets. In Being an artist is a bit like being a tramp, the artist’s wandering takes him to the hinterlands in search of portals that transcend time and space. Interested in this work? Julian Warrender @julianwarrenderjewellery Smocking Ring (3 sizes available) Sterling silver Each 1.5 × 1 cm £195 Julian Warrender’s practice explores form, texture and the relationship between traditional craft and contemporary design. Her smocking rings draw on the gathered folds and intricate patterns of traditional smocking, creating a conversation between heritage craft and contemporary jewellery making. The rings are a direct homage to Warrender’s former clothing design business, which she ran during the 1980s and 1990s; one of her smocked pieces entered the V&A Museum’s National Collection and appeared in The Cutting Edge: 50 Years of Turning Points in British Fashion. Beccy Bloomfield @beccybloomfield Floating Pink Cyanotype, oil stick, wax crayon 45 × 62 cm £200 Beccy Bloomfield’s work grows from close observation of place and physical encounters with the landscape, allowing light, weather, water and texture to leave their mark. In Floating Pink, a cyanotype is layered with rubbings of fossilised rock and pink pine needles. The white rock can appear to float against the blue, which suggests sea or sky, while the needles form another layer. The work consid by @bondstreetgallery

Nina Garstang Entangle, Untangle, Retangle 10 metres of beach-foraged industrial fishing plastic rope, untangled, washed, spray-painted and Viking-braided 120 × 36 × 36 cm £650 Nina Garstang’s multidisciplinary practice explores relationships between people, place and the natural environment, with the sea at its centre. For The Warp and the Weft, she has transformed ten metres of beach-foraged industrial fishing rope through untangling, washing, spray-painting and Viking braiding. Its coloured strands evoke the body’s circulatory and lymphatic systems; fluorescent hues bring contemporary synthetic intensity into an organic visual language. The work brings Scandinavian craft and folklore into dialogue with material associated with the Sussex coastline. The piece can be installed to suit the space available and collector’s preference through direct consultation with the artist. Interested in this work? Sometimes (always!) it pays to look up! 😊. Check out some of our higher hangers! (Swipe left) Simon Fell Tag Ceramic earthenware 16 x 7 x 14 cm £900 Simon Fell works across ceramics and drawing, creating objects and figures that often sit between the familiar and the strange. There is a sense of humour in the work, but also a serious interest in people, behaviour and the structures that shape our lives. He uses recognisable forms as a starting point, then shifts them just enough to make us look again. This particular work recalls the graffiti tags that can be found on and around (among other places) railway buildings, bridges, and sidings. Interested in this work? DM Bond Street Gallery or email info@sarahshaw.co.uk. You’re welcome to pop in during gallery hours, or message us to arrange a private viewing. REQ Past - Future x Eternity Oil paint and acrylic ink on canvas mounted on board with blue masking tape 23 × 31 cm £420 With roots in graffiti and street art, REQ’s detailed paintings combine technical precision with interests in perception, place, time and memory. In Past - Future x Eternity, Lupin climbing the stairs represents the present moment in time’s movement from future to past, while the vertical warp exists in “no time”, or eternity. REQ leaves the canvas mounted on the board he painted it on, revealing the painting process as if it would never be completed. Interested in this work? DM Bond Street Gallery or email info@sarahshaw.co.uk. Pop in and see us during gallery hours, or message us to arrange a private viewing. Enzo Marra Sleeper Acrylic on canvas 30 × 21 cm £1250 Enzo Marra’s paintings and drawings explore where recognisable imagery begins to break down. In Sleeper, part of an ongoing series, he reduces forms to retain just enough information to suggest a figure, object or place. The painting develops from photographs taken slowly, at the right times, presenting a human presence and suggesting a mystery that continues beyond the picture plane. The subject remains constant while variations respond to what is seen and how it relates to the wider world. Interested in this work? DM Bond Street Gallery or email info@sarahshaw.co.uk.
