Ashitaka build book!! I honestly adore functional design (graphic design is my weapon) and watched SO many build book videos & examples on instagram before making this, I am very proud of the result :3Also thank you so much @hemask for giving me your blessing to cosplay your absolutely gorgeous artwork!!This cosplay was such a labor of love for me from start to finish. This was my first time ever making pants or shoes, my first time working with wool in any capacity, my first time weathering anything, my first time patterning from scratch, my first time trying anything historical, my first time putting a whole cosplay together start to finish. Most of my previous builds have involved some sort of sewn or modified Fun Jacket, w/ everything else being purchased. It was so FUN to enter an arena where the answer to "Am I doing too much? Is it Really Weird to care about these details?" was "There is no such thing as doing too much". It just feels so incredible to step into a world where obsessive attention to detail is celebrated & I'm definitely here to stay🏹I used google slides to set this up, and my core build book principles were:1. The judges know how stuff is made, I do not have to show individual steps unless they are unusual/display details you cannot see in the final costume, or I need to prove stuff like I did in fact spin my own yarn2. Minimizing text as much as possible, & maximizing the readability of the text that is present. If you'e just flipping through, can you understand what is being shown?3. The build book is structured exactly in the order that I planned&practiced my pre-judging presentation! I wanted the judges to be able to flip through the book with me, & this also meant by the time the build book was done I had essentially memorized my presentation as well!I just LOVE yapping about this project, please feel free to DM/comment if you have any questions about any part of it, I could literally talk about # My Boy for HOURS by @boneconstruct

AAAAAAAAHHH omg I had such an amazing time at Fanime this year, thank you so much to everyone I met and everyone I hung out with!! Thank you to everyone who supported me through my entire journey with Ashitaka by giving advice & critique & encouragement, bringing us snacks, and hyping eachother up in the green room -- especially my beloved biggest cheerleader @theacalix. Thank you to everyone who came to the TLT gathering, I love hanging out IRL and celebrating this special book series. Fanime truly continues to hold the title of my favorite con and all of that is because of the amazing people, I love u all so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️HUGE thank you to the masquerade judges, @onecuppacoffee @grimoireal @sumikins @cherimage_cosplay, it feels so incredible to have my art validated at this level. Getting bumped up from novice and winning best intermediate at the very same con where I saw my first masquerade ever, over 15 years ago, was such an indescribable experience. I've been wanting to go to ECCC for YEARS, and I'm so happy I finally made it happen!! shoutout to @wyrd_play and @cassylvan for being excellent hosts and showing me around town and uploading me to the airport at 4am. I was very locked in and touching grass the whole weekend so only got a few pics with me in them, but hey that's evidence of a con well spent! It was really cool to meet so many awesome people, thanks everyone for being so welcoming and I'll definitely try to be back next year ❤️ by @boneconstruct
