After a needed rewatch last night, we’ve decided to celebrate Black History month with Sun Ra’s vision of a Black Utopia. A JOYFUL NOISE (1980) on VHS followed by SPACE IS THE PLACE (1974).

Directed by John Coney, the plot follows Ra as he returns to Earth in his spaceship to recruit followers, battling an evil overlord in a card game for the fate of the Black race, all while featuring performances by his Arkestra.
