THE LAZY GENIUS WAY
KENDRA ADACHI
Star Rate: 5
Page Count: 200
American Author

"Kendra Adachi is a two-time New York Times bestselling author"

This and a friend with a similar system have made me read it. Or you guys know self-help is my least favourite genre. In fact, you might find me reading a recipe book with more enthusiasm than this

However, I'd recommend everyone , especially gen Z moms, this lovely book with 13 simple rules would definitely help them juggle their jobs with fewer system failures.

It's a keybook for time management with handy and practical tips for people who struggle with routine management, decision making, and other such illnesses . Easy to read. Along the lines "philosphy for Dummies" series. How is it a best seller is simply beyond my comprehension.

Same old consumer culture, capitalism, happiness products, and magic potions. 🎩

POSTCOLONIAL BANTER
SUHAIYMAH MANZOOR KHAN

British Pakistani Author

Now, this is a book I'd recommend as a compulsory read for all postcolonial courses.
The book is a six part collection of amazingly powerful and original poems on the subjects we , the colonized, understand very well, but what makes it even more special are two distinct features: the performity of poetry and language poetry styles. Since @thebrownhijabi is known by many as a performer of poetry and happy news for me, she is also into dramtics and already a playwright, so it must have been natural talent of hers. Also, the craft of language poetry is very subtle, and she expresses her expertise in it with exceptional authority.

If you know my bookstagram, you know I dont critique poetry , I read it for personal joy rarely addressing its academic and literary values in reviews. But this one is a poltical manifesto , and yet so dearly personal as it conjures thousands of pakistani images, voicing the take of a pakistani muslim woman on issues that matter to us specifically and entire region generally.

SOLD

British-Yemeni Author

I don't want to talk about it. It's a very old story, but since it's someone's life, I don't want to say it's stereotypical.
If it's a family tragedy, then it is absolutely heart-wrenching, a father forcing and cheating his daughters into marriage, abandoning them into an alien country that was his roots, not theirs.
But if it's supposed to be a story of human trafficking , I don't know why it is "selling" since in many cultures, dowry is given by men. Surprised? Why is it not selling when in Western societies women had to marry to even inherit their own money ? The politics around the subject of women of Middle East and western feminist agendas is brutally distasteful.
I read the book for my student's sake, who probably loved the book and wanted me to read it πŸ™ƒ

Read if you like to see how power structures work.

Time Warps. Space folds. Flux in stasis. I dont care. Hiding in plain sight. There it all goes. Think , for it's always outside this box. Mystery Cat. Neitzsche Narwhal. To be or not to be.

As fun as it is, I can go on. I won't say this book is the best book, but it's closer. And we re getting closer. On both ends. That's a warp. That's a fold. Poor old souls.

Read to decipher or dumb kinda book.

Have you read it? Or can I make you read it?

TERRITORY OF LIGHT

Japanese Author

It wasn't an easy read!

Last night, I read the last two pages of this amazing book because I was holding back until @herstoryfactory
returned to bookstagram who sent it to me all the way from South Korea. She did finally appear yesterday. I am over the moon with joy.

Autofictions are one of my much loved genres. I also understand that Gunzo magazine ran the chapters of this book over the period of a year. 12 chapters, and a year, perfect metanarrative. The book is short, but like they say, pack a punch, and I had to take hours to put my thoughts together. I am still all consumed. Again , the author's success: the book makes you feel the depletion and fatigue of the single mom raising her 3 year old while struggling to keep a steady job and get her husband to divorce her legally.

And knowing the author was the daughter of Osama Dazai, it was all expections. I won't lie. I love it now more than when I was reading it. At that time, I was horrified by the bleakness, the very tangible physical discomforts, and bizarre dreams of the protagonist.

I researched train suicides while reading it, since the deaths were so many, and the moif kept coming until that event of train hit suicide where she finally uncovers the meaning of it.

Dreams were libidal but still left me feeling unpleasant about the way they were depicted. All in all, it was a good but draining experience.

Thank you, dearest @nooretics, for tagging me in this warm #onewordthreebookschallenge πŸ’•

Going with L🀍VE : love is order , its anarchy, its entropy its an order.

None of these books are about plain old Romeo Juliet love. They are all chaotic and messy and, of course, complicated.

Tagging seems a difficult choice, but I'd love to see your one word.

Thank you, dear @nooretics, for tagging me πŸ₯° in this lovely #autumntag 🍁
Although the real tag was autumn in august, in which @dragon.lore.library tagged my dear friend Nooran who switchedit to September , and now I am changing it to October 😁 as you do. By the way, autumn has just set in Lahore.

So here is this

πŸ‚ a book with an orange colour
Physics of the impossible, a book I am reading with my son.

πŸ‚ a favourite fantasy book
These Dividing Walls , it is reviewed as magic realism/ fantasy. I am excited to read it this month

πŸ‚ a cosy read
It's merely a coincidence that, like my friend, I am also picking Marquez's Love in the Time of Cholera for this book, which has been a reread kind of book since 2014 , a decade.

πŸ‚ a book that you are intimidated to start
Evolution of Everything: dont even ask.

πŸ‚ a book that is on your fall tbr
Casanova, it is. Recently got this copy. My autumn tbr is all over the places πŸ˜‰

I want to tag everyone, but I dont know if you would join in now . please feel free to skip or join as you feel.

THE COLLECTORS
PHILIP PULLMAN
Star Rate: 5
Page Count: 40
British Author

I was losing October. Without one gothic , it felt like I am missing out on the autumn vibe and then at a library my daughter picked it up she read it in 20 minutes and handed me the book with " what's happening here" I read it for her.

It was somewhat like Monkey's paw story. Magical painting , haunted perhaps , made me think of Dorian grey. So two people died the same night after a meeting over some ancient artefacts. That's simple but classic

I discovered a gem of series and its companion novellas. Short, concise , magical , mysterious as it should be in gothic tales. Of course, some cues were missing, but isn't that what makes a gothic mysterious tale different from crime fiction and thrillers?

Pullman doesn't explain everything away. That's my kinda stuff in horror stories. That's one reason to read. Second is characters. All of them fully developed despite a short story. Lastly, it had both the Poe's gothic greyness and Agatha Christie thriller vibe.

Read if you like easy gothic reads with mind-boggling mystery thrill.
