Last week's 5 day portrait painting @londonschoolofvisualarts with amazing tutor @luca_indraccolo I learnt so much from Luca's phenomenal teaching but so aware of how small that is in the world of painting. Huge thanks Luca for all your teaching.

Thank you to @charliepickardart for a fantastic course and venue and the beautiful model @laurieinlines ❤️

Heart the Lover by @lilykingbooks

I was only 5 pages into this novel when I knew I’d fallen in love with it, the writing is sublime, the characters reach out from the pages and fold you into their world.

This is a short novel, only 249 pages and written with a beautiful brevity that still conveys almost 30 years of the characters lives.

♥️
The novel starts at University where the narrator meets two students, Sam & Yash, who will change the course of her life. They all quickly form a close and intimate friendship, almost to the exclusion of other friends around them. The narrator begins a relationship with Sam, which has its challenges, and over the course of the scholastic year it’s clear that the trio's friendship is evolving into a complex love triangle as she & Yash fall in love.
At the end of the first part of the novel, the relationships between her and the two young men are broken, the intensity of those heady, intellectual days at University seemingly not withstanding the realities of adult life and commitments. We are left with a mystery - what broke that golden first love for our narrator and Yash?

The following second part of the novel picks up some 20 years later, we find her reconnecting with Yash, but still they are both unaware of the other's reasons for their failed affair. As time and circumstances force them to address their past, with each other and with Sam, the trio are finally brought back together.
♥️

This novel is immensely moving, emotional and filled with love and compassion.

I adored every line.

Kent bookshop tour 🌞

With so much wrong in the world right now it was a privilege to have a beautiful spring day on the road visiting bookshops, seeing the sea and ending with the extraordinary talent of @wordsbynatasha talking about her astonishing new book Universality.
This novel truly is a work of genius, I adored it and if you have the chance to hear Natasha talk about her inspiration and creative ideas I implore you to listen. Universality is out now from @faberbooks and available through bookshops, with the exclusive signed, blue cover only through Independent bookshops, including the great Kent bookshops I visited today. I ✨Adored ✨ The Notorious Virtues by @alwynhamilton I was hooked from the first page and read it in 2 days!
A fabulous, feisty YA fantasy with strong female MC's, friendship, magic, intrigue, trials, danger and a hint of romance ❤️‍🔥
Plus the cover is so gorgeous (this is my proof pictured) and for Indie booksellers there will be a wonderful special edition with spredges!!
Out 27 March 2025.

✨🐺❤️‍🔥

The bestselling Rebel of the Sands author is back with a glittering fantasy thriller duology, featuring a family obsessed with money, power, fame - and magic.

At sixteen, Honora ‘Nora’ Holtzfall is the daughter of the most powerful heiress in Gammanix; her family controls all the money – and all the magic – in the entire country. But when her mother is found murdered in an alley, the family throne and fortune are up for grabs, which means Nora will be pitted against her cousins in the deadly Veritaz trials to determine who is the rightful inheritor.

And then there's a surprise rival in the form of Ottoline, aka Lotte, the illegitimate daughter of Nora's aunt, who was left with nuns as a baby. Thrown into the Veritaz, Lotte is suddenly surrounded by a hostile family she never knew she had.

As the Holtzfalls wage their battles of privilege, something bigger and more sinister bubbles beneath the surface. Revolution is in the air.

Incredible tests, impossible choices, and deadly odds await both girls. But there can only be one winner.

I had a lovely bonus to my visit this week @sevenoaksbookshop - who had just revealed a new installation in their children's department- a Mini Museum contained in a vintage children's desk 📝

Its a brilliant mini insight into an authors work and, drumroll, the inaugural exhibition features the wonderful @jamiefumboo 🥳

Perfect for all Bunny vs Monkey, Looshkin and Phoenix Comics fans 💥

Merry Christmas to all booksellers, bookshops, publishers and fellow book people.

So many of my dear friends I have met through the love of books, wishing you all happiness and joy this Christmas.

May the coming New Year bring peace for those suffering under conflict, repression and persecution.
