Go into this book knowing nothing. Thats the best way to experience it. Addie is such a wonderful character and has such an expansive story both temporallt and emotionally. She is strong in ways I can only hope to be.
Addie LaRue is a French girl who, at the age of 23 in 1714, made a deal with the devil. Thats all im gonna tell u. She experienced so much history, art, life, in this tale and she deserved a happier ending. The last 50 pages is what kept it from a 5⭐️ for me. She deserved better than that ending.
I finished this book and stared at the wall contemplating life for 10 minutes. I cried after that and mourned the beautiful woman V.E. Schwab created: not becuade she died but becuase all that she endured.

We r reading this for my book club with my friends from New Mexico. We started with the Hunger Games series and finished all 5 of those and now r reading this series.
This was an extremely intruiging story, the plot was excellent, and the writing made u suspicious of everyone. I had the killer half correct but they were never the top of my list. I was suspicious of the wrong person a majority of the time. I loved the mixed media idea with using a narrative, Pip's personal notes, diary pages, and all kinds of stuff to mix it up. Really good concept.
Despite all that tho, the ending left me dissatisfied tho :/ idk why it just felt off.
Im definitely gonna contiue the series with book club tho

O. M. FREAKING. G! This was so good! An excellent end to the beautiful story of Captains Calico and Donna. The plot and premise was so unique, the romance was truly slow burn, the whole crew was such a such a perfect collection of people, and the world I envisioned in my head was so beautiful. This is the 2nd book in a romantic, fantasy, pirate duology following Donna, a pink pirate who runs on love and kindness, and Captain Calico, an infamous and incredibly hot pirate captain of his ship The Rebecca.
The first book starts with Calico crashing Donna's arranged marriage and their adventures together from then on.
This duology focuses on the strength of being kind, leading with love, and that being compassionate is an attribute to be revered instead of stepped on.
This was fucking fantastic and Calico and Donna r officially one of my fave book couples ever.
Donna's love for Calico, her crew, and basically everyone is beyond moving and it is so refreshing to see a heroine so in tune with her kindness and accepting of her soft side instead of them constantly becoming hardened by their trauma. She helped me realize its ok to keep ur soft heart and still be a fearless and respected woman and leader. Calico, oh my dear captain, you are a top tier yearner and a selfless leader to ur crew. Id trust you with my life too.
If u are looking for a softer, more whimsical version of pirates of the carribean with a dash of Marina and Sinbad romance, this is the duology for u!
Immediately need these books with their beautiful covers sitting on my shelf at home.
The first book, Drowned In The Name of Love, is out and available. The 2nd book, (this one) Hoisted By Thy Heart, will be coming out soon but the date is changed so im not exactly sure when. Check out the authors page @writtenbyruts.diaz for details on that ans skmeabsolutely STUNNING art of Dalico (Donna + Calico) as well as the crew from both books.

Some of my all time favorites I will talk about forever

Nothing could make me read these. No bone in my body is itching to open these books.

Some of the ones I'd save from a fire and will never leave my possession

Id rather lose a year of my life thab read these books another time. I want my time back by @bookdates.w.liz
