🪩 Best of 2024 🪩

Choosing a best of this year was very challenging. Out of 439 books there were so many memorable ones. I somehow managed to choose a top 25 (5 in my previous Nora Roberts appreciation post). The remaining 20 are here. All of these were rated 4.75 or 5. Not all of these were published in 2024, as much as I read a lot of ARCs, I also like to get some backlist books in there as well.

✨🪩 Best Books of 2023 🪩✨

My reading year has surpassed any other year I’ve had in the past (262 this year). Really delving into audiobooks allowed me to read 100 more books than I would have through simply ebooks and physical books. I was able to be more strict with my rating scale thanks to Storygraph’s quarter star availability. But even with this that, it was still really hard to select my favorites to highlight.

Romance and historical fiction are still my most read genres. My historical fiction favorites deserved their own slide:

The Greek Guesthouse by Michelle Vernal
Publication date: 7/23/26

🧩 I grabbed this book because it was set in Greece. Greece is my number one bucket list vacation destination. My grandmother’s family is from Crete and I wanted to see how Michelle would describe the island. Reading this one made me want to go there even more. I loved the discussions about the Greek food and Annie learning to make things.

Annie uproots her life and heads to Greece to visit her sister’s pen pal for an undetermined amount of time. Kassia’s family folds her right into their lives. It’s a family she never expected and they easily become very important to her. I love all the members of Kassia’s family and how much they all care about Annie in their own way.

I was so excited to return to Montgavin Township. Natasha’s Dream series was such an emotional ride I couldn’t wait to see what this series would bring. It was so fun to see returning characters and the bakery still being a fixture.

Collins and Theo were an unexpected pairing. What started as a one night stand quickly became something more. Collins is hesitant to let anyone in because of her past and her parents. Theo is all in almost immediately following their second run in with each other.

There’s a little suspense involved in this one too, which is always appealing to me. I like the added drama.

I devoured this story on audio in one day. I absolutely love Teddy Hamilton and Samantha Brentmoor and they did an amazing job bringing Theo and Collins to life.

This book is just as fantastic as the other books of Natasha’s I’ve read. Thank you to @theauthor.agency and @blackstonepublishing for my copies of this book. I will be counting down the days til the next book.

After my sister was killed, my parents vowed never to return to this place. But I made a promise to uncover the truth. And now that I’m back, her killer has nowhere to hide.

Standing in the impressive hallway of this luxury holiday home, it’s hard to imagine our little house once stood here. Someone wanted to bury the ghosts of the past when they built the glass house and tourists come for miles to stay here. I’ve planned every detail of this trip and made certain the locals won’t recognise me. It’s the only way I might get them to talk.

But soon it’s clear no-one wants me here. At first it’s little things like whispers and threatening looks. Then one night, when I return to the house, I notice my possessions are out of place and I’m sure I can see a figure in the darkness outside.

Then I hear the sound of breaking glass downstairs and my heart shatters. Someone has been watching my every move. They must know who I really am. But when I come face to face with my sister’s killer, am I prepared for what I will find?

🧩 This was an interesting premise. Right before Jessica’s mother dies she tells her that the man charged with her sister’s murder isn’t actually the killer. Jessica returns to her hometown to get the truth, even though her dad suggests against it.

This is a relatively slow paced thriller but that didn’t bother me. I like the mystery part and Jessica’s desire to find answers. There’s a little romance in the story, but that’s part of one of the twists I wasn’t expecting and it only adds to the mystery.

I was not expecting the final twists, and what the real answers were to Jessica’s sister’s death.

💡💡 Series Spotlight 💡💡

When I saw that the upcoming Eddie Flynn book is up on NetGalley, I had to request. I’m stuck on pending right now and keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll get lucky enough to get a copy. I’ve read ALMOST this whole series, and completely out of order, I know I know, blasphemy. I’ve gotten about half of them thanks to @atriabooks .

I will eventually read books 3 & 7 (I wish the audios were on Libby) and I can’t wait til book 10 comes out in March.

Where She Rests (Nikki Hunt Book 12) by Stacy Green
Publication date: 7/13/26

🧩 I love Special Agent Nikki Hunt. I enjoy the way that Stacy writes her character and how she integrates the FBI into the local police forces. This case hit too close to home for Nikki, the murders that open the story take place at a close friend’s bakery.

As the story unfolds more and more pieces come to light that are connected to the murders of the teenage girls. I thought I had the killer pegged, but that pick was just too easy. The last half of the story has a lot of twists that made it hard for me to put the book down and do adult things like go to work.

Nikki and Liam are great partners. You can clearly see how close they are and how well they know each other, and how much they mean to each other. I hope Stacy has more stories planned for them.
